Amazon Network Development Engineer, Perimeter Protection (Anti-DDoS) in Dublin, Ireland

Description

AWS Shield is looking to hire best-in-class Network Development Engineers to join our Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Response Team. In this critical role, you'll safeguard the security and stability of our global network while driving automation and innovation in our operations.

We're looking for highly motivated problem-solvers with a proven track record of technical leadership, success in autonomously and/or collaboratively driving complex issues to resolution, and an “automation first” mindset. The candidate can also demonstrate in-depth knowledge of network engineering and security, and be able to clearly communicate design best practices to customers to help them scale under load. They will have regularly demonstrated operational excellence in supporting a large-scale service provider or enterprise environment, including event management. As a technical leader, the candidate will manage complex stakeholder relationships, both technical and leadership. A love for working with new technologies and pushing the envelope on existing technology is essential!

Key job responsibilities

Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, and optimization, while maintaining application best practices and interacting with both internal and external customers.

  • Work with Amazon customers and service teams to diagnose and respond to ongoing events

  • Partner with Amazon organizations to proactively assess their DDoS resilience and drive improvements

  • Identify and drive automation of repeatable tasks through the creation and/or evolution of scripts and tools

  • Drive improvements in our automated detection and mitigation systems from operational learnings

  • Develop quality metrics that surface recurring issues or inefficiencies, then drive them to resolution

  • Develop documentation and processes for recurring issues, operating procedures, or knowledge transfer

  • Advise leadership about new trends and/or ways to improve our DDoS resiliency

  • Effectively contribute towards hiring and developing others in the team

  • Participate in the team’s on-call rotation

Basic Qualifications

4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience

1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience

Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large–scale network environment.

4+ years of experience developing engineering, deployment, or operations mechanisms to support IP network and/or networking systems.

4+ years of experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.

Preferred Qualifications

Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP routing, Server Load Balancing, Network Security architecture, and core technologies such as IP, TCP, BGP, Firewalls, ACLs, and DNS

Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.

Experience working in virtualized enterprise networking environments.

Software development/programming.

Must be comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment.

Ability to work in and keep up with a fast-moving environment via effective prioritization and time management.

A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience in a large – scale network environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
