Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drug Utilization Reviews : Participate in drug utilization reviews for high-cost specialty drug market baskets. Past clinical experience and exposure to Dermatology, Gastroenterology, or Rheumatology specialty service lines is highly desirable

  • Medical/Clinical : Uphold clinical integrity of pharmacy initiatives by staying up to date on medication information, contribute to the identification of pharmacy program best practices, collaborate with providers, and provide pharmacy expertise within the organization

  • Strategy development and activation : Monitor trends in drug utilization, pricing, formularies, step therapy, rebate programs, and manufacturer assistance programs to inform strategy development

  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration : Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies for enhancing medication affordability within the Medicare Advantage population while adhering to compliance requirements and maintaining clinical excellence. Teams include- payment integrity, pharmacy UM, industry relations, claims operations, health care economics, finance, contracting, etc.

  • Regulatory : Stay informed about Medicare regulations, reimbursement policies, and industry best practices

  • Implement Value-Based Care Initiatives : Deliver affordability through initiatives aimed at dose optimization, appropriate therapy/de-escalations, therapeutic substitutions, utilization management, referral management, contracting, claim edits, rebates, etc.

  • Care Coordination : Ensure seamless coordination of care for patients to receive therapy from the most appropriate site/pharmacy and benefit (B vs. D)

  • Track and Evaluate : Track interventions and monitor effectiveness of affordability initiatives to guide team priorities

Broad-based and comprehensive knowledge is critical to success in this role. You'll need to be comfortable making recommendations on behalf of a highly diverse patient population. In addition, you'll need to be well-versed in product formularies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy

  • Active pharmacist license in good standing

  • 5+ years of experience as a Pharmacist in a healthcare setting

  • 2+ years of clinical practice and direct patient care experience in a specialty area (e.g., dermatology, gastroenterology, rheumatology)

  • Experience providing consultation and drug therapy recommendations to both providers and patients

  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical therapeutics for specialty drugs

  • Proficiency in literature search and evidence-based medicine

  • Must reside in Pacific, Mountain or Central Time Zone and be able to work 8 hours between 8a-5p Mountain Standard Time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy Board Certification (BCPS, BCACPBPS, etc.) or completion of a PGY2 pharmacy residency program

  • 2+ years of Managed Care/PBM experience or completion of a managed care residency

  • 2+ years of experience in Medicare Advantage programs

  • Experience in operations, data analysis, report development, or program development within the healthcare field

  • LEAN process and six sigma experience

  • Familiarity with value-based care, including shared savings/risk models

  • Knowledgeable in medical and pharmacy claims processing and data management

  • Robust analytical and mathematical skills, including the ability to reconcile financial reports and data and identify trends in drug costs

Nevada, Washington, California or Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
