Grant Thornton Staff Accountant in Downers Grove, Illinois

ICS - Staff Accountant

Grant Thornton is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team in Downers Grove, IL.

Purpose of the Position:

Staff accountants are responsible for a majority of detail work necessary to maintain accounting records for the firm, produce monthly and ad hoc financial reports, and provide informative financial analysis. This position requires onsite work in our Downers Grove, IL office on a weekly basis.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analysis and reconciliation of key accounts to assess accuracy, completeness, and need for adjustment

  • Preparation of timely and accurate journal entries, financial statements, supporting schedules and ad hoc reports

  • Takes responsibility for project load, while being able to appropriately communicate with supervisors (Accounting Seniors and Managers) to ensure agreement on direction of the project, status, issue and issue resolution

  • Income statement analysis to provide variance explanations to supervisors, firm management

  • Application of U.S. GAAP knowledge to ensure the proper recording of financial transactions

  • Adhere to departmental standards regarding electronic and paper documentation as applicable

  • Provide backup support for other accountants in the department as necessary

  • Interact with various Finance and Accounting personnel and other key personnel across the firm to obtain information necessary to complete responsibilities

  • Reports updates; systems testing for accounting systems

  • Special projects as needed; perform other job-related duties as necessary

  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion

Key Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred

  • Very adept at using Microsoft Office suite of software programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access) and adept at learning new software programs

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize multiple assignments

  • Able to work both independently and as a member of a team

  • Results-oriented; takes initiative

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Willing to work additional hours when needed, and flexibility related to time zone differences in teaming with India
