Essential Job Functions
This position\'s primary responsibility is to assure accurate and timely servicing and repairs to Tollway vehicles and equipment. Priorities are set by this position, as to the importance of vehicles or equipment concerned. This is established through communication with and by guidelines set by the Central Shop Manager and various Department representatives. Scheduling of repairs is determined by this position.\ \ This position requires good communication with several Departments regarding maintenance scheduling, to assure minimal down time for their vehicles. This is critical for emergency personnel such as District 15 State Police.\ \ This position is responsible for receiving new vehicles or equipment. It is also responsible for replaced units being stripped of Tollway owned equipment and overall oversight of decommissioning of vehicles. Decommissioning of vehicles must be closely coordinated with the Telecommunications Unit. New vehicles being prepared for service will be the responsibility of the incumbent, including installation of required decals, lights and unassembled allied equipment.\ \
*Hours for this position is Monday Friday 3PM 11PM, but currently working 10 hour days from Monday Thursday 3PM 11PM.
- Has responsibility for Night Shift operations at Central Shop.
- Is on call 24/7 for emergency repairs and can be required to perform the duties of a Fleet Manager in their absence.
- Provides in house training for Technicians as required.
- Ensures that units are serviced, repaired with high level of quality and safety and ready for use as soon as possible.
- Ensure that subordinates generate quality work while maintaining the highest level of productivity possible.
- Maintain a good line of communication with Managers and employees to assure accurate information is received.
- Comparisons of employee work standards to assist in technician instructional training and scheduling.
- Communicates with District Fleet Managers and Central Shop manager to ensure work is scheduled in a timely manner.
- Prepare and perform evaluations for employees such as mechanics and Central shop clerks as required.
- Schedules personal time, vacations, shift personnel.
- Issues disciplinary action as may be needed within prescribed limits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education (Required)
- High School graduate and possess a valid Class \"A\" Commercial Driver\'s License.
Experience (Required)
- Requires an extensive knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance procedures and requires the ability to troubleshoot difficult technical problems.
- Have extensive knowledge of the use of highly technical tools and diagnostic equipment used to diagnosing vehicle and equipment repairs. This equipment includes sophisticated computer diagnostic devices use to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Possess good desktop computer skills and is expected to develop basic documents and spreadsheets.
- Must have good internet skills to use search tools to find parts or look up vehicle information.
- Must be able to work with minimal direction and possess a high level of personal accountability since the position is on shift when the Fleet Manager is not at work.
- Minimum ten years\' experience in auto and/or truck repair field is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
