Position Summary

The Pharmacist, under the general direction of the Pharmacist in Charge, assists patients with their health care needs by filling prescriptions, providing excellent customer service, and assisting with supervising Pharmacy Associates. The Pharmacist is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with Zufall policies and state and Federal laws.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reviews, and dispenses medication orders by following Providers orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibility and advising on interventions.

  • Compound and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and nursing staff, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients, or overseeing these activities.

  • Assess the identity, strength, and purity of medications.

  • Ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of all prescriptions filled.

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers with medical related issues and providing healthcare counseling.

  • Supervise the work completed by Pharmacy Technicians and support staff while on duty.

  • Assist Supervising Pharmacist to train, coach, and manage Pharmacist associates.

  • Maintain appropriate security of the Pharmacy department.

  • Handle and resolve customer issues, complaints and questions to build customer trust and loyalty

  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regiments, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics.

  • Plan, implement, and maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security and proper disposal.

  • Analyze prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.

  • Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage.

  • Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and following infection control guidelines.

  • Prioritize Pharmacy Department tasks and follow through to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.

  • Indirect supervisor of pharmacy technicians when on duty.

  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and assessment skills

  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communications skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work cohesively with a team or independently, and build relationships with staff and external partners

  • Compliance with all applicable policies and procedures of Zufall Health Center

  • Able to relate appropriately to, communicate effectively with and develop positive relationships with diverse client populations and staff.

    Education, Training, and Experience

  • Completion of college degree leading to RPh or greater

  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy with a Pharmacy degree

  • Valid NJ State license in Pharmacy

  • BLS certificate required

  • Maintain required education for licensure

  • Minimum two years’ experience in retail pharmacy

    As a condition of employment, we require that all staff are fully vaccinated against flu.
