State of Massachusetts Direct Care Worker II in Dorchester, Massachusetts
The Department of Developmental Services Metro Region is seeking a dynamic and energetic person to the role of Direct Care Worker II, the second level in the direct support series. Incumbent will be responsible to oversee the day-to-day operation of the shift, support and supervise staff of lower grades, and provide robust and meaningful supports to adults with Intellectual/Developmental disabilities in their home and community. Mediation Administration Program certification, CPR and First Aid and approved restraint curriculum training will be required. /_Duties & Responsibilities_/ 1. Maintain, promote, and protect individual’s rights and dignity in compliance with DDS, local, state, and federal regulations. 2. Perform functional supervision of DSW I’s including daily supervision, training, and ensuring compliance with DDS’s mission and guiding principles. 3. Provide direct care services in daily living, social and leisure skills by instructing, supporting, and/or interacting with individuals in all aspects of their daily lives. 4. Provide health and safety interventions through the administration of medications, First Aid, CPR, Crisis Intervention, Behavioral Intervention, Fire Safety, and so forth, so as to ensure the overall health and safety of the individuals. 5. Document, maintain, and review confidential individual records, including accountability for individuals’ funds that are distributed for recreation/shopping/inclusion activities. 6. Assist with housekeeping and food-related duties, including but not limited to menu plaining, meal/snack preparation, cleaning, laundry, and maintenance activities. /This summary of the primary functions of the position is not a complete list of duties and responsibilities./* / //_Schedule Information:_/// Full-time – 40-hour weekly position - 1st shift Tuesday-Saturday from 7AM-3:30PM Days off – Sunday and Monday /_Required Qualifications_/ * At least 1 year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience supporting individuals with disabilities, or an Associate's degree or higher with a major in a human services field (sociology, special education, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, etc.) /_Preferred Qualifications_/ * Capacity to participate in inter-disciplinary health care teams. * Skilled in establishing rapport and deal tactfully with persons from varied ethnic cultural, economic backgrounds, and/or under physical, emotional stress, or in stressful settings and providing supportive supervision to staff of lower grades. * Demonstrated knowledge of standard DDS policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices * Ability to establish relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians and staff members. * Willingness to work varied shifts and/or irregular hours/weekends, holidays, nights. * Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook. /_Agency Requirements:_/// * Must possess current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. * Applicants must pass the Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification. * After successfully completing a training program, the selected candidate must acquire and maintain; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (FA) certification, and certification in a DDS approved de-escalation/restraint curriculum (currently PABC). /PLEASE NOTE:/ This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the Department of Developmental Services Emergency Plan. This means that whenever the Governor declares that the Commonwealth is in a state of emergency, selected applicant will be required to report to work. This is a 24hour/7 days a week staff position. Candidates must be able to be flexible in their work schedule.
