Job Description:
Network Administrator Deputy Lead
Join GDIT as a Network Administrator Deputy Lead and play a key role in delivering enterprise IT services to the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). In this pivotal position, you will support SOUTHCOM’s mission-critical operations across Central America, South America, and select Caribbean countries while driving innovation and transformation. This role is integral to SOUTHCOM's move to a Zero Trust Architecture, aligning with the Department of Defense's Zero Trust Strategy and Executive Order 14028. As a Network Administrator Deputy, you will oversee the administration, operation, and maintenance of network platforms across the USSOUTHCOM enterprise. Your responsibilities will include engineering development, infrastructure integration, interface design analysis, and testing of software and hardware to ensure seamless performance. Additionally, you will perform system-level configurations, validating the integration of hardware, software, operating systems, and platform specifications, all while maintaining compatibility with existing legacy systems to support SOUTHCOM's mission objectives.
Qualifications:
8+ years of experience leading teams of network operations staff
8+ years of experience supporting global network systems and subsystems; troubleshooting a wide range of LAN, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), BGP, WAN, and network/service availability; and making recommendations for system fixes and enhancements.
3+ years of experience with IPv4 and IPv6 protocol stacks.
4+ years planning and executing local and long-haul communications.
4+ years of experience supporting and troubleshooting CISCO firewall appliances and rulesets and working with firewall solutions
2+ Support 1+ year of experience with DISA’s Joint Regional Security Stack.
3+ Experience with network monitoring and management tools (Cisco DNA (Digital Network Architecture) and NetBrain Next-Gen, SolarWinds, Wireshark, Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
Support the team lead of thenetwork operations staff, ensuring effective management of day-to-day operations, task delegation, and performance monitoring.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Network Administration and Operations:
Oversee network administration operations and maintenance for SOUTHCOM’s enterprise systems.
Perform configuration management and ensure interoperability of hardware, software, and operating systems within the SOUTHCOM network.
Maintain and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, MPLS, and BGP systems to ensure high network/service availability.
Installing, configuring, and optimizing Cisco networking devices like routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
Identifying and resolving complex network issues, including routing protocol issues, network connectivity problems, and security breaches.
System Integration and Development:
Designing and architecting complex network solutions for large organizations, including LAN, WAN, and data center networks.
Engineer and develop network solutions to meet operational and organizational needs.
Conduct integration, interface design analysis, and testing of infrastructure to ensure compatibility with existing legacy systems and platforms.
Provide recommendations for system fixes and enhancements to optimize network performance.
Forecasting future network needs and planning for capacity upgrades.
Security and Compliance:
Implementing network security measures to protect sensitive data, including access control, encryption, and intrusion detection/prevention.
Support the implementation of Zero Trust Architecture across SOUTHCOM’s networks.
Configure and troubleshoot Cisco firewall appliances, rulesets, and other firewall solutions to maintain a secure network environment.
Utilize Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) to enhance network security and access management.
Monitoring network performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing optimization strategies
Expertise in network security solutions, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and security protocols.
Protocol and Communication Planning:
Manage IPv4 and IPv6 protocol stacks, ensuring smooth and secure communication across global networks.
Plan and execute both local and long-haul communications for reliable and efficient connectivity.
DISA Joint Regional Security Stack (JRSS):
Deep knowledge of data center networking technologies, including data center fabric, storage networking, and virtualization.
Provide operational support for DISA’s JRSS platform, ensuring effective integration and alignment with SOUTHCOM’s strategic goals.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, operations, and changes.
Provide reports on system performance, incidents, and resolutions to leadership.
Education Required:
- BA/BS with 4+ years of experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience.
Certification(s) Required:
DoD 8570 compliant:
IAT Level II or III Baseline Certification.
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
Computing Environment (CE) Certificate.

The likely salary range for this position is $136,000 - $184,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
