The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Infection Control Preventionist with a hire date of June 2024.

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September, 2024.

The Infection Control Preventionist functions as a consultant, educator, role model, change agent and researcher at the assigned location/s. The Infection Control Preventionist develops, reviews and revises infection prevention and control policies and procedures in conjunction with departmental leaders to ensure alignment of current standards and guidelines. Ensure employees are educated and trained on these policies and procedures. The incumbent ensures oversight of the facility’s compliance within the University’s policies and procedures, state and federal regulations related to infection prevention and control.

  • Develops, reviews and revises infection prevention and control policies and procedures in conjunction with departmental leaders to ensure alignment of current standards and guidelines. Ensure employees are educated and trained on these policies and procedures.

  • Collects, analyzes, and reports infection data. Evaluates medical products and clinical procedures to optimize for infection control standards.

  • Consults on infection risk assessments, prevention, and control strategies (including occupational health, construction, and emergency management).

  • Facilitates education efforts directed at interventions to reduce infection risks. Develops and reviews policies and procedures, including pandemic preparedness.

  • Implements changes mandated by regulatory accrediting agencies and provisions high-quality services in a cost-efficient manner.

  • Performs surveillance activities and applies an epidemiological approach to problem solving.

  • Utilizes externally defined criteria/algorithms to determine healthcare-associated infection.

  • Performs analysis and meaningful presentation of data and participates in process improvement teams.

  • Collaborates with leadership to prepare data and formats and presents reports to hospital-specific committees.

  • Implements educational programs to support infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and practice plans. Provides in-service training programs as requested, and educates personnel about infection control and infectious diseases, both formally and informally.

  • Advises personnel regarding infected or potentially infected patients concerning barrier requirements, including when patients should be removed from isolation.

  • Contributes to policy implementation, ensuring that staff are following proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization procedures. Participates in education of public health alerts and disease prevention.

  • Monitors and performs surveillance of targeted and non-targeted issues in accordance with the Infection Control Plan, CDC guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

  • Educates clinical and non-clinical staff on multi-drug resistant organisms. Develops educational brochures and information sheets to better educate patients, visitors, and staff on multi-drug resistant organisms.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in Infection Control (CIC)

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
