IOWA COUNTY Correctional Officer in DODGEVILLE, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Iowa County Sheriff\'s Office is seeking applications for a full-time Correctional Officer position. This position performs a variety of duties, either involving the care and custody of prisoners confined to the County jail, or the operation of the Sheriff\'s Department communication center, including the 911 system. Employees will be required to work varied hours, weekends and holidays and are expected to work overtime. This position will be scheduled for 12 hour shifts starting on the pm rotation. As a Correctional Officer, this position acts to maintain the peace and security of the jail, its inmates, the public, and property of Iowa County. The Correctional officer\'s principal duties include active enforcement of the law as required by departmental policy. Consequently, this position requires frequent exposure to potentially dangerous situations through close proximity to prisoners, both in the jail and when transporting. This position also requires a high degree of physical conditioning. -Maintain the integrity, peace and security of the jail and Sheriff\'s Office on a daily basis. Manages the actions of prisoners incarcerated, intervening to stop disturbances, enforcement of jail rules, conducting searches and inspections, surveillance of all inmates, taking custody of and releasing inmates, serving inmate meals, admitting visitors, preparing reports and other required documentation. This position may also require that the Correctional Officer arrest or detain a person, serve civil process papers or issue a citation(s) if necessary during their scheduled time. -Maintain personal health standards at required levels. which include the physical conditioning sufficient to address any threat of physical confrontation by an inmate or person. -Will maintain the security of the Iowa County Jail, Iowa County Courthouse, and any premises assigned to by the Sheriff or his /her designee. -Shall practice safety measures designed to protect all staff when in contact with inmates and while responding to situations in or around the Iowa County Jail. -Will be able to respond to any high-risk situation such as an inmate out of control or riot within the Iowa County Jail. -Shall report and respond to any unusual occurrences, violent acts and breaches of security within or around the Iowa County Jail to the Sheriff or his designee. -Performs such other duties as may be assigned from time to time, such as guarding an inmate in a hospital, transporting prisoners, or any other place so assigned. -Receive and dispatch all emergency and routine calls, including the 911 system to the appropriate agency in a prompt and courteous manner. -Answers incoming Emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, identifies the nature of the complaint and dispatches the proper responding agencies to the complaint. -Operates the TIME System Software (TIME), used for driver\'s license checks, vehicle registration checks, queries for warrants, etc. and other data processing systems, including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS) and Jail Management System (JMS). -Operates radio transmitters in accordance with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) rules and regulations. -Maintains confidentiality and secrecy regarding certain information and documents. -Shall assist the public that request information or assistance of the Iowa County Sheriff\'s Office. -Shall maintain those records and documents that are required of the position by the Sheriff\'s Office or by statute. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications include but not limited to: 18 years of age or older, high school diploma or G.E.D., valid drivers\' license, LESB jail certified or jail certifiable within one year of employment, demonstrated customer service job experience in which telecommunication equipment and computer equipment is managed simultaneously, TIME certi ication as it relates to the dispatch function, ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
