County of Surry District Conversation Director in Dobson, North Carolina

This position oversees the Surry Soil and Water Conservation District in carrying out programs of soil and water conservation by planning and installation of Best Management Practices under the North Carolina Agriculture Cost Share Program for Non-point Source Pollution Control. Other State programs the director works with are Impaired Impacted Streams Program, Agricultural Water Resources Assistance Program, Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, and the Community Conservation Assistance Program. The director supervises the Soil and Water staff, manages all department operations, the departments budget, and programs bringing funds to the County. The director makes contacts with land users to gather factual data for developing Conservation Plan of Operations (CPOs), scheduling decisions concerning land use, and cost shared, and non-cost shared Best Management Practices to be installed and maintained on the operating unit. Assists land users with NCACSP application, develops and submits CPOs and other required NCACSP forms to Raleigh. Works with landowners and Division of Water Quality when there is a water quality violation in the County to ensure that the problem is taken care of in a proper and timely manner. The Director will be required to work closely with the Division of Water Quality staff to ensure the waters of Surry County are kept as clean as possible. The position works under the supervision of the Soil and Water Conservation District Board and will be responsible for other duties as required. This position is open until filled.
