Job Posting Summary

The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates to fill the full time Program Director position in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. This is a 12-month faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program beginning September 2024. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Contract type (i.e., tenure track or multiple-year track) and rank (i.e., Assistant or Associate Professor) will be determined based on experience and scholarship.

Mercy University (Dobbs Ferry, NY) seeks a dynamic, student-centered individual needed to lead our undergraduate AAS Occupational Therapy Assistant program. The position is a 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is an opportunity to join engaged, professional, dedicated colleagues in an ACOTE accredited program. The OTA Program is part of the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 4 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, nursing, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology. We have a strong focus on interprofessional education as well as local and global community service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership to the Occupational Therapy Assistant program in achieving its mission, goals, and expected program outcomes

  • Work with accrediting agency to maintain and/or achieve program accreditation, including submission of annual reports to accrediting agency

  • Coordinate programmatic assessment and assessment of student learning

  • Coordinate recruitment and selection of department faculty, adjuncts and staff

  • Oversee departmental budgets

  • Prepare materials and teach assigned courses

  • Participate in admissions activities to facilitate and promote student enrollment

  • Facilitate and serve as a channel for communication between faculty and staff within the Program, and between the department and the Dean

  • Oversee recruitment and work closely with program advisory committee

  • Develop and maintain external relationships with program stakeholders and fieldwork sites

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to program faculty

  • Encourage a collegial and positive program environment that promotes excellence in teaching, research, and service

  • Supervise program clerical staff

Qualifications

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team

  • Prior teaching experience in an Occupational Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapy Program

  • Innovative use of educational technology and familiarity with online educational delivery tools such as Blackboard

  • Experience in teaching, research, inter-professional education and incorporating technology into teaching and professional practice is highly desirable

  • Experience as a clinical supervisor/clinical educator

  • Experience working as part of an interprofessional team

  • A minimum of 5 years of documented experience in the field or occupational therapy which includes:

  • Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant

  • Administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting

  • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning)

  • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants

  • 3 years of experience as a faculty member with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level

    Required Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of documented experience in the field or occupational therapy which includes:

  • Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant

  • 2 years administrative experience including, but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting

  • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning)

  • Understanding of and experience with occupational therapy assistants

  • 3 years of experience as a faculty member with teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; problem solving, organizational and presentation skills

  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point required

  • Individual must be detailed oriented, have strong skills in customer service, and be able to be student centered at all times. In addition, ability to work both independently and in teams and work with confidential information

    Education Requirements:

  • Initial Certification by the National Board for the Certification of Occupational Therapists

  • New York State License – Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant

  • Master’s degree in occupational therapy or a related field

    Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
