Job Posting Summary

The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates to apply for a part-time, (average of 5 hours a week), administrative position to serve as the Medical Director in Physician Assistant Studies Program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University beginning Spring 2025. The Physician Assistant Program Medical Director will collaborate with the Program Director to provide oversight and guidance to ensure that didactic and clinical instruction meet current practice standards for physician assistants in providing patient care.

This is an opportunity to join the accredited Physician Assistant Program located in the Bronx NY, home to multiple hospitals which partner with the program to support clinical placements. The surrounding community and student body are ethnically and culturally diverse, and the program focuses on preparing students for primary care in underserved communities. The program, and School of Health and Natural Sciences, has a rich history of both local and global community service through our mobile health vehicle and global missions.

The PA Program is part of the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 5 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, nursing, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, nursing, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology. We have a strong focus on interprofessional education as well as local and global community service.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Assist the Program Director in ongoing development, evaluation, and improvement of the curriculum for physician assistant program

  • Ensure that didactic and clinical instruction meet current practice standards as they relate to the role of the PA in providing patient care

  • Actively participate in the program and support the development of the program competencies to meet current practice standards as they relate to the PA role

  • Support the ongoing evaluation of the program competencies to meet PA current practice standards and ARC-PA requirements

  • Participate in the identification, recruitment, development, monitoring and maintenance of quality pre-clinical clerkship and clinical teaching sites

  • Participate in the recruitment of physician, physician assistant, and other healthcare providers to provide specialty lecturers, clinical skills training, and supervised clinical practice experiences as needed

  • Participate in scholarship and service activities as required to maintain licensure and board certification

  • Participate in accreditation-related activities, including evaluation of curriculum and administrative aspects of the program, as required

    Education Requirements:

  • Current license as an allopathic or osteopathic physician

  • Certified by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board

    Other Qualifications:

  • Current and valid New York-Licensed Physician (MD or DO)

  • Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, general Pediatrics Board Certification (within the US)

  • Graduate of a U.S. accredited medical school

  • A minimum of three years of clinical experience

  • Prior teaching experience in a Physician Assistant Program or medical school preferred

  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills; demonstrated reliability and effectiveness during prior work experience, as may be verified through contact with professional references

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team of highly motivated and experienced healthcare professionals, as may be verified through contact with professional references

  • Honesty, integrity, and commitment to high professional standards, as may be verified through contact with professional references

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources.
