THIS IS A NON-CAREER APPOINTMENT THAT IS LIMITED TO 129 HOURS PER MONTH

Are you a self-motivated and resourceful individual who has a positive attitude and strong ethical standards? If so, Michigan Unclaimed Property is looking for you! We act as custodian of unclaimed/abandoned property in Michigan and work to reunite reported properties with their rightful owners or the owners’ heirs.

The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to all areas of Michigan Unclaimed Property. Job duties include data entry and update, as well as document maintenance within the Unclaimed Property KAPS system. This position conducts independent online research using creative avenues to determine corporate ownership of subsidiary businesses, and to locate reported owners or their heirs in order to reunite them with their property. This position also assists with reconciling, labeling, categorizing, and overseeing abandoned safekeeping items, including items from safe deposit boxes, that have been turned over to the custody of the Michigan Department of Treasury.

Additional Requirements and Information

The student must provide evidence of enrollment or acceptance to an educational institution. Please attach a cover letter, detailed resume, and proof of enrollment in a college or university to your application.

Civil Service Regulation 3.02 authorizes student assistant to work up to 29 hours a week with a maximum of 129 hours in a calendar month. The work schedule for each semester will be determined and agreed upon by the supervisor and the student.

This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Selected candidate must have a safe and appropriate designated workspace or workstation for performance of work and secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.
