JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to join our team. This position involves traveling to job sites and performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of heavy machinery and fleet vehicles. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience working in the field, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Field Maintenance and Repairs:Perform on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on various heavy equipment including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, and loaders.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:Utilize diagnostic tools and manual methods to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and develop effective solutions for repair.
- Preventative Maintenance:Conduct routine inspections, service checks, and maintenance on equipment such as changing oil, replacing filters, and lubricating machinery to ensure optimal performance, minimize downtime, and extend equipment life.
- Parts and Equipment Management:Diagnose parts failure, place orders for necessary components, and ensure proper inventory management of parts and tools.
- Safety Compliance:Follow all safety guidelines and industry regulations while working on-site, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.
- Documentation and Reporting:Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and equipment condition. Maintain a log of completed services for future reference.
- Emergency Response:Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns or mechanical failures in the field, ensuring repairs are performed efficiently and safely and prioritizing repairs while minimizing downtime for equipment and operations.
- Technical Support:Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting expertise to less experienced staff when necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent (completion of a technical school program or apprenticeship is a plus). At least 2 years of experience working as a mechanic with heavy equipment. Experience with various machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders etc.
- Skills and Abilities:Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and heavy-duty equipment. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet. Good communication skills and the ability to interact with clients and team members.
- Certifications: CDL
- Physical Requirements: Abilityto lift and carry up to 50 lbs, or more if necessary. Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Capable of working in confined spaces and at heights when required.
- Working Conditions:Travel to job sites and remote locations is required, sometimes with limited access to tool or facilities. Work involves physical labor, including lifting heavy parts and equipment, and working with hand tools and diagnostic equipment. Work will often be outdoors in varying weather conditions. Overtime, on-call, or weekend work may be required, depending on the nature of the projects and equipment breakdowns.
