Amentum Engineering Intern in Dhaka, Bangladesh
Background
The Feed the Future Bangladesh Agricultural Infrastructure Development Activity is a United States Agency for International Development funded project implemented by PAE, an Amentum company. The Activity seeks to address the infrastructure needs of farmers through investments in rural roads, market centers, collection centers, cold storage facilities, and irrigation systems. By investing in rural infrastructure, the Activity will increase incomes, create jobs, reduce crop losses, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen food security.
The main five objectives of the program are:
Increase access to markets for agricultural produce, inputs, and services by improving transportation of agricultural produce and inputs, while improving the capacity of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to maintain rural roads.
Enhance post-harvest handling and storage of agricultural produce by increasing access to post-harvest handling and storage facilities and improving the operation and maintenance of aggregation and storage facilities.
Improve women’s participation in the markets.
Engage the private sector in order to maximize the impact of the Activity.
Build operation and maintenance capacity at the markets.
Position Overview
PAE/Amentum is thrilled to welcome applications for its Women’s Engineering Internship Program as part of the USAID The Feed the Future Bangladesh Agricultural Infrastructure Development Activity, which focuses on engineering career development in the Bangladesh construction sector. Prospective female applicants include recent graduates in civil engineering or related disciplines who are passionate about building a career in the Bangladesh construction sector. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire practical working experience in civil construction-related activities. This program aims to provide recent graduates with an opportunity to apply the education they have received, gain practical experience, and benefit from mentorship from our experienced and resourceful Infrastructure Project Manager.
Responsibilities Of The Selected Interns
The intern will work closely with PAE/Amentum technical team and report to the Activity’s Infrastructure Program Manager. The intern will perform the following roles and:
Conduct regular inspections of the construction site to ensure adherence to safety standards and project specifications.
Document and report any deviations, issues, or potential risks observed during site inspections.
Assist in the development and review of project plans, including drawings, schedules, and cost estimates.
Contribute to the designing and development of relevant templates/tools for data collection.
Collaborate with Field Supervisory Engineer (FSE) to ensure that construction activities align with project timelines.
Participate in quality control processes to ensure that construction materials and workmanship meet the required standards.
Conduct inspections on materials delivered to the construction site for quality assurance.
Collaborate with subcontractor and construction workers to facilitate smooth project execution.
Communicate project requirements and expectations to the construction team effectively.
Prepare regular progress reports on construction activities, including milestones achieved, challenges faced, and proposed solutions.
Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental regulations and safety protocols at the construction site.
Identify potential safety hazards and work with the team to implement corrective measures.
Engage with local communities affected by the construction activities to address concerns and ensure a positive relationship.
Facilitate community awareness programs related to the project.
Attend training sessions and workshops organized by the project or external entities as beneficial to the intern’s learning and development.
Prepare meeting minutes, assist with social media content and the creation of infographics as required.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Deliverables
Each intern will work with their respective mentors to prepare a sample construction work plan, outlining tasks, milestones, schedule, and deliverables.
Each intern will submit a detailed report upon completion of the internship.
Eligibility
BSc or Diploma in Engineering (Civil) or related subject within the last 4 years.
Strong interest in career development in the Bangladesh construction sector.
Command of Microsoft Office software package.
Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
Ability to work proactively and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
Willingness and capability to work at a construction site in rural areas and engage with local communities.
Working proficiency in Bengali and English in speaking, reading, and writing.
Logistic details
There are currently 3 internships available in different locations and with start dates varying from December 2024 to February 2024 for a duration of around 6 months. The locations available are Upazila: Faridpur Sadar or Madhukhali , District: Faridpur. No relocation assistance will be offered.
The Intern will be required to be at the construction site office 40 hours per week, Sunday-Thursday and will earn a monthly remuneration of 50,000 Tk gross/month.
