Overview:
HKS is seeking an experienced Technical Architect to join our team.
Exercises independent judgment in evaluation, selection and use of technical specifications requirements, and solves problems when encountered. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of architectural principles, practices and procedures to complete assignments with originality and ingenuity. Anticipates job expectations and contributes to project solutions.
Responsibilities: Project: Assists in preparing specifications for projects Reviews implementation documents and other project information to write specifications for projects and coordinates compliance with project requirements, office standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and codes Prepares specifications for bidding documents Maintains project specification files and updates as needed Advises Design Department materials selection and application Assists Construction Administration department with approval of materials substitutions Executes deliverables according to scope of services and HKS standards, best practices, and quality expectations Develops specifications including edits, assembling project manuals, printing and formatting specifications for all disciplines Performs product research; assists project designers with material selection and system research May develop and maintain relationships with vendors / suppliers Maintains technical resource library and list of technical resource contacts Works to meet project deadlines and project-specific keynotes Ensures complete and coordinated technical specifications Works with project teams to evaluate constructability issues, determine the appropriate use of Building Material Technologies and develop technical specifications May attend client or consultant meetings Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines May assist in developing and implementing code compliance education and training programs for HKS staff Stays current on product development, new materials, code changes and industry trends

Qualifications: Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Construction Management or related field Architectural registration required Typically 5+ years of architectural experience, including 1+ year of specification writing Certified Construction Specifier designation preferred Sustainable design accreditation preferred Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and eSpecs preferred Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred Experience with spec writing and quality control/quality assurance preferred Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines Knowledge of construction methods and construction materials Knowledge of architectural building systems Knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into technical documents Knowledge of proje
