Description:

The Wayne County Probate Court is looking for a Court Clerical Worker VI-Mental Health Clerk. This role will coordinate activities relative to processing petitions for involuntary treatment for alleged Mentally Incompetent (MI) persons, and processing petitions for guardianships for individuals with developmental disabilities. They will review and scrutinize petitions for accuracy and completeness prior to acceptance and filing.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of mental health laws and court rules as they pertain to processing Mental Health petitions filed in the Wayne County Probate Court, including alleged mentally incompetent and individuals with developmental disabilities. • Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriately the Estates and Protected Individuals Code (EPIC), Michigan Court Rules, court procedures, legal terminology, and Court paper flow to accomplish departmental job responsibilities. • Maintain the image of the Court by courteously dispensing information to the public and attorneys regarding Probate Court forms, policies, and procedures in person, via email, or by telephone. Make appropriate referrals to other departments as needed. • Coordinate activities relative to processing petitions for involuntary treatment for alleged Mentally Incompetent (MI), and processing petitions for guardianships for individuals with developmental disabilities. Review and scrutinize petitions for accuracy and completeness prior to acceptance and filing. • Coordinate with other Probate Courts to properly process out of county MI Petitions. • Enter petitions, review case records, establish new files, and enter data into the computer records. Prepare notices of hearing and proofs of service, facilitate attorney assignments, prepare and distribute packets to attorneys. Forward notices to hospitals and petitioners via electronic or U.S. Mail. Scan and appropriately route petition packets. • Accurately and timely enter and result MI/DD documents into CourtView using specific computer codes, and scanning/imaging documents when applicable. • Review and correct all images (missing images) daily. • Ensure smooth flow of the docket by assembling petition packets in an orderly fashion, including proofs of service. Notify the receiving courtroom of any missing documents or other issues. • Disseminate information and coordinate communication to hospitals, agencies, attorneys, and the public as to the schedule of petitions set for hearing. Prepare and forward Status Reports to the hospitals for their use in updating courtrooms on the patient's status and verifying attendance at hearing. • Ensure the cohesive operation of the unit by monitoring status of work-in-progress, performing and assigning work, keeping the supervisor informed of workflow status and any pending issues, and assisting with training as needed.
