Job Description SummaryA member of the Driveline Product Engineering Safety and Compliance group, the lead product quality engineer helps AAM ensure that its products are safe, of a high quality, and fit for purpose. The lead product quality engineer will help the Product Engineering organization methodically identify technical risks in products, categorize them and control them through mitigation and verification.

The incumbent shall facilitate or conduct product quality and product safety analysis in support of AAM Driveline Product Engineering development. The primary analyses performed shall be design failure mode effects analysis (DFMEA), monitoring and system response failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA-MSR) and process failure modes effects analysis (PFMEA) in accordance with industry standards practices such as those of the VDA and AIAG. The lead quality engineer will typically facilitate the analyses-ensuring the techniques and principles applied are consistent with industry standard practices and that failures, mitigations and control measures are appropriate. The lead quality engineer will also potentially support functional safety activities in accordance with ISO 26262 such as facilitation of safety analyses (Functional Safety FMEAs and FTAs), development of safety concepts, development of safety mechanisms, and formulation of safety cases.

Job Description *Serves as project manager for product development projects. *Interfaces with customer representatives throughout the product development cycle to gather requirements, ensure design meets the requirement, and gain approval to use the design in production. *Researches and records historical and benchmark information regarding the customer's need; creates and maintains a record of potential risks with the product design. *Compiles reports and completes documentation to track and facilitate the product development process. *Oversees various analyses such as stack-ups, DFMEA, Finite Element Analysis, Design for Assembly/ Manufacturing studies, and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness studies; approves changes in design bases on analyses. *Delivers technical presentations to various stakeholders; participates in various technical reviews throughout the product development cycle. *Leads the establishment of key product characteristics and development of a bill of materials for an approved design. *Compiles reports and completes documentation to track and facilitate the product development process. *Leads the testing and validation of product designs; ensures scheduling of product design testing; gains prototype and part approval. *Attains final authorization, documentation, and release to production of a new product or product enhancement design; helps complete design drawings or other documentation; helps obtain drawing approval and issuance of notice of release; supports product launch activities. *Advises and directs individuals and teams across the business as an acknowledged authority in the field. *All other duties as assigned.
