Old Redford Academy is hiring a Director of Athletics and Wellness.
Old Redford Academy has new leadership, new direction and a new commitment to academic excellence. The academy is a tuition free, Pre-K to 12th grade academy that offers highly qualified teachers, free transportation, one-to-one student technology, an expansive athletic program, and a rigorous curriculum that is both standards based and culturally responsive.
We are looking for dedicated staff that will allow all students to contribute to classroom learning by sharing and gaining knowledge from each other. The Old Redford Academy's philosophy is based on early work of Dr. Maria Montessori Method of Teaching which has a focus on educating "the whole child". GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Director of Athletics & Wellness provides administrative leadership in planning, implementing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating all athletic and wellness programs across the Old Redford Academy community, including interscholastic athletic programs for the middle and high schools. The Director promotes extracurricular athletic activity that fosters skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of athletic activities and programs, teaming, and sportsmanship for students and adults. The Director may not coach in-district athletic programs. The Director also sits on the district Coordinated School Health Team and promotes the policies outlined in the District Wellness Policy.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL DO
HEALTH, NUTRITION, and FITNESS
- Ensure activities aligned with the Wellness Policy take place across Old Redford Academy for faculty, staff, students, and families
ATHLETICS
Develop active athletic sports programs for elementary, middle and high school
Prepare and maintain a budget for interscholastic athletic programs
Report, document, and file all athletic injuries per district protocols and check student eligibility per MHSAA and school board policy
Verify that all participants have a physical examination, proper permission forms, and athlete code of conduct before the start of tryouts per school board policy.
Ensure that all athletic events are properly scheduled and communicated to parents in a timely manner
Oversee the collection and processing of all supplemental pay forms for coaches
CHARACTER / COMMUNITY
1. Work with key stakeholders to identify strategies for driving personal, academic and social growth among students, incorporating our mission Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow
Build structures that promote leadership, accountability, anti-bullying and other core values into the daily routines and practices of the school.
Oversee a committee of coaches, network administrators, parents and community members to identify and build a character development program centered around our student athletes
Identify core values that will serve as the foundation of the athletic program and will be instilled in our athletes throughout the school year
Initiate and supervise the planning and execution of student athlete-led volunteer opportunities within the school and community
SUPPLIES, EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS
Keep an updated inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms.
Keep supplies, equipment, and uniforms in satisfactory condition, and recommend replacement supplies, equipment, and uniforms when necessary.
Inspect all athletic areas for cleanliness and the proper storage of all athletic supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
Provide each building with equipment, team medical supplies and uniforms prior to the season and ensure that eac
