Job Title: Court Clerk II

Annual Salary: $42,995

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to appropriately apply the Estates and Protected Individuals Code (EPIC), Michigan Court Rules, Court procedures, legal terminology, and Court paper flow to accomplish departmental responsibilities.

• Maintain high ethical standards.

• Manage and control the Judge's docket and all courtroom functions to ensure the courtroom's smooth and efficient operation. Examples include, but are not limited to: - Entering judge's schedule/setting up docket blocks in CourtView - Preparing docket for hearings. - Prepare MI docket by gathering/verifying MI Status Sheets - Checking in petitionersparties. - Calling cases on docket. - Follow-up calls on incomplete documents. - Calling parties who have requested adjournments. - Scheduling and rescheduling hearings. - Processing orders when required. - Assisting with matters taken under advisement. - Preparing videodisks for transcripts. - Review and correct any missing images daily - Assist with the removal and destruction of records/files.

• Under the direction of the Courtroom Coordinator, provide training, assistance, direction, review and monitoring of Court Clerk I's responsibilities.

• Assists with Court Clerk I job duties as needed.

• Operates and verifies the functionality of the courtroom recording equipment to ensure court proceedings are recorded and published to the network. - Operating Zoom/video conferencing software. - Operating IVT equipment for mental health hearings. - Operating video recording equipment for all hearings. - Publish data to network - Provide copies of hearing recordings when transcription is requested.

• Maintains the image of the Judge's office and the Court through professional, courteous, accurate, and timely responses to requests and inquiries made by the judge, attorneys, coworkers, management and the public as required. Examples include, but are not limited to: - Create orders/disposition sheets per Judge's direction - Assist in processing petitions and motions, including those sent by mail. - Assist staff on petition questions. - Process attorney withdrawal requests - Approve/reject late filings of bonds/acceptances of appointment. - Adjourn/reschedule hearing dates, including emergency hearings. - Accept/reject petitions, filings, reports (determine if conform wSCAO, law, and court rule and court rejection policy). - Review/process stipulations and orders. - Keeps SCAO report lists current. - Appoint/waive guardian ad litems (GALs). - Accept restricted account agreements. - Processing briefs, responses, answers, and objections. - Process civil action (CZ) pleadings. - Review garnishments, subpoenas, and writs of execution. - Respond to public/staff inquiries made in any form, including email - Respond to e-mails forwarded by management. - Respond to inquiries and correction requests made by management. - Generate Letters of Authority - Assist with the removal and destruction of records/files. - Ensure all applicable (i.e., Fax, Mail, Clerk Review) NetDMS queues are kept current.
