*JOB SUMMARY: *Responsible for career coaching activities and related supportive services assistance for eligible Center for Working Families and ReBuild Detroit. Assist apprenticeship readiness students in obtaining stable employment and advancing themselves toward economic self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive support services and job readiness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.  Adheres to the Mission of SER Metro-Detroit.
  2. Develop a Career Plan (individual employment plan or individual strategy service) that identifies client interests, goals, needs, and placement strategy.  
  3. Assesses client career and job readiness and recommends strategies to enhance their marketability, including referrals to training and/or workshops.    
  4. Identifies problem areas and service gaps and assures implementation of Career Plan; identifies and prepares reports to supervisor on areas identified as barriers to customer services and prepares a plan of action. 
  5. Provides counseling, intervention, and comprehensive supportive services to address observed barriers that may reduce the participant's chances of successfully completing the program; makes referrals as needed.
  6. Assures that the implementation of service plans to meet customer needs is carried out effectively and according to policies and regulations. 
  7. Maintains relationships and connects with employers and partners to generate job opportunities for the job-seeker base. 
  8. A career coach has a current understanding of economic and employment trends and emerging career opportunities.
  9. Works closely with students to determine the type of jobs matching our job-seeker base's skills and qualifications.
  10. A career coach provides workshops on career readiness soft skills and advises candidates on how to prepare for interviews.
  11. Make ongoing follow-up calls and/or site visits (if applicable) with job seekers and employers to determine employment status and satisfaction with services delivered.
  12. Manages and updates the database of job development leads and case notes.
  13. Maintains program database, including data collection, input, and program reporting.
  14. Assists with workshops, special events, and programming (Money Smart Week, Show Me the Money Day)
  15. Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with experience in social work, counseling, career planning, placement, or related field. 

Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish are required. 

Experience in WIOA and employment and training program operations preferred. 

Knowledge of community resources, case management principles, objectives, standards, methods, and program policies and procedures.

Knowledge of or ability to learn and use Salesforce, LaunchPad, OSMIS, FileMaker, and other reporting systems.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Access).
