Description
Under direction, to have charge of the central body repair facility, several support shops, and related facilities and to supervise a group of specialized mechanics and others engaged in the repair and maintenance of transportation equipment bodies and components .
Examples of Duties
Supervise the work of a major body repair shop, several support shops and other facilities engaged in the repair and maintenance of coach bodies and components.
Inspect vehicles to determine necessary repairs or replacements.
Scheduling repairs make cost estimate, assign, and supervise the work of specialized mechanics and others.
Arrang e for the procurement or production of needed parts.
Coordinate repair requirements with other shops.
Oversee the quantity and quality of work performed by the metal paint and sign shops, upholstery shop and other facilities.
Advise and instruct subordinates on the more difficult repairs.
Inspec t work in progress and upon completion.
Check work records and evaluate work performed.
Test coaches and equipment prior to placing them back in-service.
Train new employees.
Establish new work methods and procedures.
Conduct fleet checks of body interiors and exteriors.
Select co aches for retirement and assist in their sale.
Assist in coach and equipment test s .
Overseeing the inventory of equipment and supplies.
Coordinate bo dy shop repair activities with those performed by contracted vendors.
Confer with superiors on special inspection or repair problems.
Select coaches for repair and assist in the preparation of repair contracts.
Assis in the eval uation of repair bids and make award recommendati o ns to superior.
Arrange for vendor pick-up and delivery of coaches.
Inspect completed repairs against specifications.
Make recommendations to superior for full or partial payments.
Conduct periodic on-site inspections of vendor facilities.
Maintain and process vendor invoices.
Maintain pertinent records.
Represent the department in contacts with city departments, g overnmental agencies, and others.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
High School graduation or GED .
Three (3) to f our (4) experienc e in vehicle body repair work, including one (1) year, which has been in a supervisory capacity .
Qualifications (preferred):
Preferably completion of coursework from a t rade or vocational school in vehicle body maintenance, general shop, and sheet metal work, or a combination of education and practical training to warrant equivalent recognition.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
