Assistant Professor - Industrial & Systems Engineering

Essential functions (job duties):

Wayne State University’s Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor. The focus of this position is on Design, Planning, Operations, and Control within the context of Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing Systems. We are particularly interested in candidates that can contribute to our department’s visions, which centers around the realization of connected and autonomous manufacturing systems for the future of industry. Areas of interest that we are keenly interested in, but are not limited to: digital twins, cloud manufacturing, industrial cyber-physical systems, collaborative robotics, human-in-the-loop systems, blockchain, industrial internet-of-things and connectivity, extended reality, and industrial analytics.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to:

Develop and maintain a productive research program, including external funding.

Establish a cutting-edge laboratory.

Supervise the thesis and dissertation research of graduate students.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.

Contribute to college and university service activities.

Qualifications:

We seek to hire an exceptional scholar with a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related areas.

A successful candidate is expected to show evidence of strong publication record, experience in teaching and mentoring students, and a strong commitment to scholarly collaboration with faculty within the college and university.
