The Opportunity

This Senior Accountant will be a member of Ally's Controller's Team supporting the Auto Finance business. Reporting to the Manager, the position plays a critical role in providing accurate, timely, and relevant financial information, advice, and transaction support to key stakeholders of the company. Under general supervision, the position will be responsible for accounting-related activities for the Auto Finance business. Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid work environment with a talented team focused on working efficiently to promote work/life balance is strongly preferred.

The Work Itself

  • Assist with the month-end accounting close process (e.g., ensure timely completion of journal entries, review financial statement variances for reasonableness, etc.)

  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of account reconciliations and consistent/proper use of general ledger accounts

  • Support external reporting processes

  • Ensure SOX compliance over designated processes and controls

  • Support the internal and external audit processes

  • Assess current accounting practice and ensure appropriate application of accounting policy

  • Assist with the research and implementation of technical accounting and disclosure matters, and develop comprehensive documentation that links our business unit accounting practices to the relevant accounting policies

  • Coordinate with other functional areas, such as Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Risk, Tax, Treasury, IT, etc.

  • Assess current operating environment and drive process improvements utilizing latest technology for automation

  • Complete special projects, ad-hoc requests, and support enterprise-wide initiatives such as acquisitions, new systems, automation projects, etc.

The Skills You Bring

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting - CPA (or equivalent) preferred

  • 3+ years of practical accounting experience

  • Capacity to anticipate and develop new processes with minimal direction

  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications

  • Strong project management skills and ability to effectively prioritize tasks

  • High level of written and oral communication skills - experience with preparing technical accounting documentation a plus

  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills
