Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Supervisor Specimen Management.

As a Supervisor Specimen Management at MercyOne, you will plan, organize and supervise the daily operations of all pre-analytical processes including specimen collection, preparation and storage for Mercy Clinical Laboratory.

  • Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and nursing departments regarding specimen collection procedures.

  • Works with appropriate laboratory and nursing staff to resolve and identify opportunities for process improvement. Facilitates process review and implements identified changes.

  • Uses multiple IT platforms to collect, register, order and receive samples for laboratory testing.

  • Identifies and requests needed IT changes that would improve workflow and/or reduce errors.

  • Responsible for formal phlebotomy training program for nurses, PCT’s and CLS students.

  • Works closely with couriers to ensure appropriate delivery of samples to the laboratory.

  • Participates in the interview and hiring process for staff vacancies in the areas of responsibility.

  • Schedules staff to ensure appropriate coverage. Monitors and adjusts staffing appropriate to the workflow

  • Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings to disseminate information and receive feedback.

  • Develops and maintains orientation materials and coordinates completion of staff orientation.

  • Completes annual performance evaluations and annual competencies.

  • Performs disciplinary action when indicated.

  • Ensures standard operating policies and procedures are current and adhere to the Laboratory’s document control system

  • Ensures compliance with the requirements of laboratory regulatory and accrediting agencies.

  • Evaluates, recommends and coordinates new instrumentation purchases, staff training, instrument set-up and advanced troubleshooting.

  • Supports and utilizes LEAN principles/productivity standards. Contributes to the formation of the vision, policies, standards and culture.

  • Develops and maintains quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives appropriate to the areas of responsibility.

  • Assists in the formulation and implementation of section goals.

  • Maintains an inventory system that ensures appropriate supply levels.

  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Manager, Clinical Laboratory Director or Medical Laboratory Director.

Schedule: Varied Day Hours

General Requirements:

  • Three (3) years clinical lab experience required.

  • Laboratory Certification through ASCP or similar organization preferred.

  • One (1) year supervisory experience preferred

  • Experience in phlebotomy preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abusewithin three (3) months of hire.

Education:

  • Associates degree required.Bachelors degree preferred.
