INSTRUCTOR of EDUCATION ESL/ELL preferred Bilingual/Biliteracy Education

Effective Date: Fall 2021

Overview:

The Education Department at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA invites applicants to join an innovative department in a liberal arts setting offering undergraduate and master degree programs. We seek applicants who are committed to diversifying the teaching force through intentional recruitment and retention efforts. Our department strives to break barriers to educational access, teach openly about the role of the individual in social change, and work towards cultivating more open approaches to non-dominant cultures/races/orientations; we encourage candidates to apply who have a similar social justice orientation. Our university serves a high population of first-generation college students and transfer students.

The successful candidate will join a department positioned as a leader in the state related to ELL. Grant funding has allowed us to license a large number of inservice ELL teachers in recent years. Further, we have a growing group of multilingual undergraduate teacher education students who began a BESO group (Bilingual Education Student Organization) affiliated with the National Association for Bilingual Educators (NABE). Several districts in the state seek partnerships related to expanding opportunities for under-represented teachers, including those prepared to teach in newly developed bilingual programs.

Successful candidates should be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate/graduate teaching, working closely with traditional and non-traditional students in a small college environment with a commitment to student success, and active engagement in scholarly activities. Opportunities to teach graduate courses and courses in the Liberal Arts Core are available.
