Department Summary:

Drake University's Office of Admission is responsible for enrolling the University's vibrant, talented, and diverse undergraduate students.

Lead by the Dean of Admission and in collaboration with a team of talented professionals, this department works in conjunction with campus partners to identify and recruit future Bulldogs (students, not actual bulldogs) from within Iowa and across the United States.

We are hiring an Assistant Director or an Admission Counselor of Regional Recruitment (title will be determined by the experience of the selected candidate). The main objective for this position is to expand outreach, recruitment, and presence in the Chicago metro area (city and suburban) in order to maintain and grow Drake University’s market share as well as increase the university’s name recognition and brand awareness in this key market. This position is one part of a comprehensive regional and national recruitment team; the campus in Des Moines will provide logistical and administrative support.

This position will represent Drake University to a variety of constituents including prospective students and parents, school and independent counselors, community based organizations, as well as actively participate in the state association, Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) and/or regional admission organization, Chicago Area Regional Representatives (CARR).

The selected candidate will work with students through the entire recruitment process, from inquiry to matriculation. We are looking for someone with outstanding communication skills; who thrives in connecting and building relationships with others; and has a keen attention to detail, positive attitude, and a drive to meet established goals.

What to Expect:

As a remote position, the selected candidate will work primarily in a home office within the Chicago metro area. During recruitment travel season, expect variations in duties and experiences. You may be in the office one day working communicating with students and families or school counselors, another day, you may be traveling to attend a high school visit or college fair.

Estimated travel can range from 12 – 18 weeks a year, primarily in the fall (Sept. – early Nov.) and spring (late Feb. – April). Basic computer skills, and a willingness to learn new computer programs, are needed. Minimal lifting/carrying requirements of up to 25 lbs may be reasonably expected.

Occasional participation in on-campus recruitment events and/or training is expected. This can range from 3-5 times each academic year. Travel to/from campus for these events is covered by the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Baccalaureate degree

• 2 years in admission, higher education, marketing, recruitment, community engagement, visits and events, or related field

• Willingness to travel to/within assigned recruitment territory

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic computer technologies

• Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours, especially during high travel/recruitment seasons (fall/spring)

• A current driver's license and the ability to be insured by the University's insurance carrier is required

• Previous experience as a regional admission professional or remote employee

• Prior experience navigating the Chicago metro area recruitment circuit

Core Job Duties:

60% - The regional representative will serve as an official representative of Drake University at college nights, high school visits, admitted student receptions, admission interviews and other events in the region. This individual is responsible for establishing strong relationships with students, counselors, community-based organizations and parents, in order to increase the quantity and quality of applications and students enrolling from within the region. This professional will be responsible for maintaining personal contact with students via appointments, phone, text, email, on and off campus events, presentations and other strategies. This individual will develop a strategic recruitment and marketing plan for the region using geo-demographic data and regular reports to inform strategy, drive applications and enrollment within the region in a cost-effective manner. - (Essential)

15% - The regional representative will review prospective student credentials and make recommendations for admission consistent with University policies and priorities. - (Essential)

10% - The regional representative will actively participate in the activities of area high school guidance counselor organizations, in state admission and counseling organizations (ACACs), and/or regional admission organizations (i.e., CARR). This individual will be strongly encouraged to explore leadership roles within these organizations. - (Essential)

10% - The regional representative will assist with projects that can be completed off site. Projects assigned will depend on office need and interest and skill set of the individual. - (Essential)

5% - The regional representative will be expected to attend trainings and events on the Drake University campus throughout the year and participate in regular meetings remotely. They will serve as a key member of the Admissions team in supporting its commitment to Drake’s mission and core values; provide excellent customer service and support to current and prospective students; help plan and execute Admission Office events, strategies, trainings, and initiatives; serve on standing and ad hoc committees, as directed; and perform other duties, as assigned. - (Essential)
