Description of Job

Work Environment:

This position is Part-time, Term-limited ( Anticipated to last until May 2025 ) , is Hybrid (Remote/Home Office w/requirement to report to Work location per business needs)

  • Office hours are typically Mon-Fri, 8 am-5 pm

  • Extended hours during the evening or the weekend may be required by business needs

  • Travel required within Denver Metro/Downtown for Meetings/Training

  • A Remote (Home) office is required

Position Summary:

The Youth Engagement Specialist will serve as an integral part of the Office of Student Support team and will provide valuable youth perspective regarding the programs and initiatives from this office, specifically the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Grant and the Colorado Academic Accelerator (CO-AAP) Grant. The Youth Engagement Specialist will contribute leadership and expertise to a dynamic team within CDE by facilitating youth engagement and youth voice in our programs and representing our team in collective impact work. The Youth Engagement Specialist will gain demonstrable skills and experience in grant administration, state-level policy and partnerships, out-of-school time programs, and youth development. The position is designed to support peer-to-peer youth engagement; therefore, this position is intended for individuals aged 21-25. This temporary, part-time position will be staffed from August 1 through April 30 each year and will work between 10 and 15 hours per week and will be compensated $1,500 per month for nine months. The hours worked will be between the core hours of 8-4, Monday through Friday.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide valuable perspective and input to the creation, implementation, and oversight of state-level policy and strategies related to the management of the out-of-school time (OST) programs funded by CDE.

  • Support the inclusion of youth "voice and choice" and modeling the principles of Positive Youth Development (PYD), a key framework for high-quality OST programming that is strengths based, inclusive, engaging, collaborative, and sustainable.

  • Facilitate youth engagement on behalf of the programs housed in Office of Student Support, including helping to facilitate technical assistance and networking events, convening youth-led focus groups, conducting interviews, and surveying youth participants in OST programs around the state.

  • Represent the OST programs from OSS in various collective impact initiatives, including partnering with Colorado Afterschool Partnership (CAP) to provide youth perspective on committees and initiatives, as well as help plan and execute conferences and professional development opportunities for grantees across the state.

  • Create and maintain resources and materials related to youth development and youth engagement in Colorado OST programs, including handbooks, toolkits, and webinars.

  • Manage the creation, development, and implementation of a statewide Youth Advisory Council to benefit all OST programs and grantees across the state.

  • Support the administration of the OST programs, including supporting the collection and analysis of program and student-level data, supporting the management of files and record keeping, supporting event planning, and completing other tasks in support of the CDE OST team's continuous improvement efforts.

  • Complete all required trainings provided by CDE, including training on data privacy.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements:

? High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

? Coursework, experience, and/or demonstrated evidence and desire to work within the field of education, youth

development, grant program management, and/or out-of-school time programs.

Competency and Qualification Requirements:

? This part-time, temporary position is designed for individuals currently in postsecondary education, recent graduates or individuals with equivalent professional experience

? Applicant should be organized, responsible and a proactive communicator

? Experience in the field of education or youth development is preferred

? Applicant should have experience with afterschool programming, either as a former participant or staff member

? This position is primarily remote and applicant should have access to consistent, reliable and fast internet

License and/or Certification Requirements:

Colorado Bureau of Investigation/Federal Bureau of Investigation full background check, which includes fingerprint submission, is required.
