University Of Denver Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor, Department Of Theatre in Denver, Colorado

As the University's largest and most varied academic unit, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is comprised of artists, learners, performers, scholars, scientists, and teachers across 21+ departments, programs, schools, and centers and acts as a central hub where many of the University's disciplines intersect. Nearly all 6,000 undergraduates at the University take liberal arts courses with us, and about one-third of these students declare a first major in a CAHSS program. Most of our departments, programs and schools offer master's or doctoral programs. CAHSS scholars, artists, instructors, staff, and students collaborate in a shared quest for knowledge about the human condition and the development of skills to improve our local and global communities. Department Summary

The Department of Theatre within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is a dynamic department dedicated to comprehensive undergraduate theatre training via a program of study (BA in Theatre) defined by its commitment to breadth of understanding, hands-on experience, and demonstrated excellence in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, Dramaturgy, History, Literature, and Management.

Position Summary

The Department of Theatre in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Denver invites applications for a one-year Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor position for the 2024-2025 academic year beginning Fall 2024. This is a full-time, appointed, non-tenure track position, with benefits and a nine-month contract. The fall term begins in September and runs through mid June.

The department is looking for growth in the following areas - dramaturgy, tech, design, management, and courses that can increase our diverse offerings, including studies of drama in Indigenous, Latin American, Asian, African, LGBTQ, and other non-western canons. We are not looking for this position to offer courses in acting, directing, or movement.

Essential Functions

  • The successful candidate will teach four sections of lecture-based Page to Stage, designed to introduce non-majors to theatre concepts. This course is part of the University's common curriculum.
  • The remaining four courses will be chosen to match departmental goals and the candidate's particular scholarship and creative expertise, for a total of eight courses over three 10-week quarters. All courses will be taught in person and on campus Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Background and expertise in Theatre. Required Qualifications

  • ABD or M.A. in Theatre or equivalent combination of academic and professional experience.

  • University-level teaching experience in Theatre Preferred Qualifications

  • M.F.A. or PhD in theatre or relevant field. Work Schedule

Varies.

Salary Rate

The salary for this position is $50,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected cand date will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information-but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
