Description of Job

The Work Unit:

The Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention (HPCDP) Branch in the Prevention Services Division (PSD), reviews, plans, designs, implements and evaluates public health chronic disease interventions and related risk factors with a goal of advancing health equity and improving health-related quality of life for all Coloradans. Special emphasis is placed on evidence-based practices, data based and evidence-informed decision-making, capacity building, partnerships, and integration between program efforts for efficiency and effectiveness. Chronic disease programs address secondary and tertiary prevention efforts, a wide variety of partnerships with state and local organizations, policy development, surveillance, and public education campaigns. The programs collectively support primary prevention activities of the HPCDP Branch. The chronic disease programs within the HPCDP Branch include federally-funded statewide programs for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, Comprehensive Cancer Control, Colorectal Cancer Screening, Diabetes Prevention and Control, Healthy Eating and Active Living, and the state­ funded Cancer, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease (CCPD) Grant Program.

The Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease (CCPD) Grant Program was created in 2005 by voters' passage of Amendment 35, which funds competitive grants to provide a cohesive approach to cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic pulmonary disease prevention, early detection, and treatment in Colorado" (C.R.S. 25 2 0.5 .302). The CDPHE Prevention Services Division, and specifically the CCPD unit, is responsible for administering and managing the grant program, and supporting the legislated CCPD Review Committee, which provides oversight and strategic direction.

The Position:

The CCPD Grants Specialist will serve as the main point of contact for all aspects of CCPD contract and grant monitoring as well as the subject matter expertise for pulmonary grants. This position will be responsible for assisting with grant progress reporting and deliverable intake, invoice processing, and other contract monitoring process for all CCPD grantees. Additionally, this position will collaborate with internal partners to create a shared approach to contract monitoring in alignment with Division and Department goals.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the qualifications:

  • Six (6) years of full time professional experience with grant administration, contract management, or project management. OR

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree* in public health, public administration, business or business administration, sociology or closely-related field AND two (2) years of full time professional experience* with grant administration, contract management, or project management. *A copy of your transcripts must be submitted at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Late transcripts will not be accepted.*This experience must be substantiated within the Work Experience section of your application. Preferred Qualifications and Essential Competencies

The preferred experience, competencies and abilities are highly desirable for this position and will be considered in selecting the successful candidate:

  • Experience coordinating a grant process;

  • Demonstrated interest in working with community groups;

  • Demonstrated proficiency working collaboratively with internal teams, technical and community partners and diverse public stakeholders to build partnerships;

  • Ability to use a variety of technology including Microsoft Office and grants management software;

  • Outstanding skills and abilities in verbal and written communications; ability to adapt a style to fit diverse audiences of varying technical levels, and at various levels within an organization, in groups and individual settings;

  • Excellent organizational skills; the ability to set, track, and accomplish priorities, goals, and timetables to achieve maximum productivity, knowing the status of activities at all times.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able and willing to travel independently up to 5% of the time. Travel may include overnights and inclement weather.
