The Worley Consulting Geoscience Practice - Mining, Minerals and Metals (MMM) team has an exciting new opportunity for an exceptional individual with solid Geotechnical Engineering in dams, tailings, mining, excellent technical delivery, and communication skills to be our Principal Geotechnical Engineer - National Lead. This person will lead a skilled team of geotechnical engineers and other professionals to provide high quality geotechnical engineering solutions and drive growth to our US mining sector clients. The position will also give you the opportunity to collaborate with other MMM practice leads and Senior leaders within Worley across the globe. This is a full-time position based in our Phoenix or Denver office - with the option to work remotely. Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities Provide geotechnical engineering knowledge on mining projects and pursuits, including tailings strategies, mining dam safety, mine infrastructure, geological site reconnaissance, geotechnical site characterization (including overburden drilling and rock coring), geotechnical analysis (including slope stability, seepage, dynamic responses, dam stability, etc.), advanced geotechnical laboratory analysis, geotechnical engineering design, seismic and liquefaction assessment, risk assessments, geotechnical owner's engineering and geotechnical QA/QC inspection Oversee the technical competency and development of the geotechnical mining team. Monitor project execution to ensure adherence to technical and quality standards. Represent the Geotechnical MMM team in key hubs including Phoenix and Denver, while collaborating closely with colleagues and clients in Markham, Ontario, Calgary, and Vancouver, Canada. Developing business, winning work, and contributing to large bid teams, including presentations, negotiations, and proposal preparation, and developing, and reviewing engineering cost estimates and schedules. Align and drive the practice, managing resources to capitalize on opportunities in across national and international locations, particularly in Latin America. Provide valuable insights from industry and client intelligence reports, to identify and cultivate new opportunities. Mentor and oversee junior staff, identify career development opportunities, and ensure adequate staffing. Collaborate within Worley integrated delivery teams, including other engineering disciplines, environmental scientists, and project support staff. Promote a culture of safety within the business.
Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) Minimum 15 years of related experience in geotechnical engineering in mining, including mining infrastructure and technique, earth dams and water retention structures, and tailings structures from pre-feasibility studies through detailed design to construction. Working knowledge of project planning, cost management, and quality management systems. Strong business acumen including revenue generation and contract management. Understanding and experience co tributing to the bid and proposal process. Strong client engagement and management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Experience leading multi-discipline teams in a fast-paced environment; along with, mentoring and developing junior staff. Travel as needed in the US; international travel may be required for various field programs.
