Our Office of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) provides a wide array of courses, an alternative teacher licensure program, certificates, endorsements, workshops and leadership training tailored to meet your professional development needs. The purpose of this posting is to expand our pool of Lecturers available to teach courses for CPE. Lecturers selected from this pool will become vital members of the School's innovative education programs. The School of Education & Human Development will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers for future appointments to temporary, part-time, non-tenure-track positions in Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). Lecturers are generally limited to two courses per term. This will be a semester-by-semester appointment, with the possibility of renewal. This temporary Lecturer pool is anticipated to remain continuously active through October 31, 2025-at that point, all applications will be cleared from the pool. You are welcome to reapply to the new posting after that date.

Teaching assignments may fluctuate and are contingent upon the schedule of courses offered each term, the required number of student enrollments in your tentatively scheduled course(s), and budget availability. Thus, we cannot guarantee that you will teach particular courses or that you will actually teach in a given term.

This position involves working closely with students where the person may become aware of campus safety issues that may need to be reported as part of CU's commitment to compliance with the Clery Act. The person in this role will receive the related training and be required to submit data once per year to the campus Clery Act team. Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Significant successful teaching or work experience in K-12 education, community, or business contexts, especially in urban and diverse settings.

  • At a minimum, an earned master's degree in relevant content area (some courses may require a minimum of an earned doctoral degree). See minimum qualifications for each academic level below.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Undergraduate Lecturer Minimum Qualifications

  • M.A. or M.S. in Education, Human Development, Family Relations, or a closely related discipline, or

  • B.A. or B.S. in Education, Human Development, Family Relations, or a closely related discipline, AND a M.A. or M.S. in any field in addition to at least 18 graduate level credit hours in Education or a closely related discipline, or

If the Master's Degree is in an unrelated field, the candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of successful experience in the field related to the course documented on the CV. Candidates need to supply some evidence (e.g., subject matter expertise or leadership expertise) of experience.

Graduate Lecturer Minimum Qualifications

MA Degree Programs

  • PhD, EdD, PsyD in Education, Counseling, Human Development, Family Relations, or closely related disciple field area.

If the terminal degree is in an unrelated field, the candidate must demonstrate experience in the field related to the course documented on the CV Candidates need to supply some evidence of experience (e.g., subject matter expertise or leadership expertise).

If the candidate does not have a terminal degree, the candidate must have a M.A. or M.S. AND a minimum of 5 years of successful experience in the field related to the course documented on the CV. Candidates need to supply some evidence (e.g., teaching experience, school principal, board certified counselor, etc.) of experience

PhD, EdD, PsyD Degree Programs

  • PhD, EdD, PsyD in Education, Counseling, Human Development, Family Relations, or closely related disciple field area.

If the doctorate degree is in an unrelated field, the candidate must demonstrate at least 18 graduate level credit hours in related discipline and/or 5 years' experience in the field related to the course documented on the CV. Candidates need to supply some evidence (e.g., subject matter expertise or leadership expertise) of experience.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education or a closely related field.

  • Experience teaching at the graduate level.

  • Experience teaching online or with blended/hybrid models (e.g. Blackboard or eCollege and LiveText.

  • Experience with culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse communities, knowledge of urban educational community issues, and an interest in collaborating with a variety of constituencies in an urban environment.

  • Proficient with basic technology (e.g. MS Office)

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at $4,900, for a fully-enrolled 3-credit course.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for group health, life insurance, and retirement benefits.

As of January 1, 2021, Lecturer positions will accrue sick leave at a rate of 0.034 hours per hour worked with a maximum accrual of 48 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

This will be a semester-by-semester appointment, with the possibility of renewal. If your appointment in this position continues, you will be notified in writing each term.
