Job Summary

Lead Medical Assistants are critical members of the healthcare team who perform clinical and administrative duties that create an overall positive patient experience. Under direct supervision, Lead Medical Assistants orient, guide and coach new Medical Assistants. The Lead also assists Providers, Nurses, and other care team members by greeting patients, verifying information, assisting in the exam room, prepping patients for a treatment, measuring vitals, performing lab tests and maintaining patient's electronic health records (EHRs). Essential Functions:

Peer Resource and Training: Coordinate orientation and assist with precepting new Medical Assistants. Provide guidance to assigned MA's related to the most effective work activities, strategic metrics, and improvement. Provide input to the annual evaluations of staff. Collaborate with ACE for teaching Annual Skills Competency and collaborate with Charge RN/Clinic RN for conducting monthly Mock MERs. (20%) Patient Intake and Discharge: Greets patients and verifies patient information, completes patient rooming tasks according to guidelines and standard work. Provides written after visit summary, and medication/vaccine information. May provide scripted patient information, assists in scheduling diagnostic testing and follow up appointments Completes documentation accurately and on time. (20%) Patient Preparation: Accompanies patients to examine rooms, confirms purpose of visit, and instructs patient on how to prepare for visit; helps patients position themselves for the examination and/or treatment, completes rooming questions and screenings appropriate for patient according to standard work and guidelines. Measures and records vital signs. Administers immunizations and medications as directed; draws blood, prepares patients for examination. (20%) In-room Assistance and Laboratory Testing: Assists provider during examinations including but not limited to chaperoning, managing and maintaining sterile field, passing instruments and devices, giving injections, or removing sutures. Prepares laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory tests; disposes of contaminated supplies. (20%) General Office Administration: Answers telephones, performs outreach, returns calls and messages according to provider instruction. Assists providers with clinical in box management as appropriate and according to standard work. (10%) Treatment Room and Equipment MaintenancePrepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat, clean and fully stocked with appropriate equipment, prepares instruments for sterilization and transport. Cleans and manages medical equipment and devices according to policy and manufacturer IFU. Monitor the readiness of medical and office equipment; troubleshoots breakdowns and escalates equipment issues according to policy. Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment. (10%)

Education: Graduation from an accredited program in Medical Assisting or an accredited program of Licensed Practical Nursing with an active LPN license required.

Work Experience: 1-3 years Medical Assistant direct patient care experience in an outpatient setting Required

Licenses: BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. Knowledge of patient ri hts and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA Excellent communication skills both written and verbal Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures, and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care Getting Information - Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

Documenting/Recording Information - Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form. Assisting and Caring for Others - Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients. Processing Information - Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data. Performing Administrative Activities - Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
