Colorado Department Of Transportation Engineer In Training I - Denver Metro Traffic in Denver, Colorado

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Engineer-in-Training I is an entry-level professional engineering position that will assist licensed Professional Engineers with overseeing traffic highway construction operations to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to::

Learns to certify that the contractor's construction methods, procedures, materials and end products are in compliance with the engineering details and specifications outlined in the construction plans by making detailed visual inspections; Assures accurate payment of funds to contractor for work completed by making detailed measurements of quantities from field data, performs independent checks of measurements and calculations for computerized project pay estimates; Learn to review and approve Critical-Path-Method schedules, Method of Handling Traffic (MHT) and shop drawings for Region-wide Striping Project. Identifies design problems, related to actual field conditions encountered and recommends resolutions; Learns to determine the acceptability of all materials incorporated into the project and actions to be taken if the materials are sub-standard as engineering judgment dictates; Work on assigned construction projects to assure compliance with specifications and designs and the administration of the contract. Ensures safety by monitoring and requesting modifications on construction sites and traffic control plan to ensure compliance with appropriate standards; Compiles all relevant data to ascertain impact on budgetary concerns when modifications to original plans or scope of work are made; Learns to determine the application of engineering theories and principles to situations that may not be covered by present design standards, references and codes; Determines when elements to be eliminated if funding of a project is insufficient to cover everything; Learn to review and approve Critical-Path-Method schedules, Method of Handling Traffic (MHT) and shop drawings for Region-wide Striping Project. Represents CDOT and Region 1 to contractors, consultants, other CDOT sections, local agencies, and the traveling public; Investigates roadway safety, conducting signal warrants study and traffic analysis, analyzing signal timing and u dating corridor signal coordination plans periodically, reviewing traffic impact reports submitted by developers; Other job duties as assigned.
