This is a Remote/Hybrid position - Work is primarily performed from a home office, however the selected candidate will report to the office at 1313 Sherman Street - Denver, CO periodically as well as other locations throughout the State for meetings, trainings and projects as directed by the supervisor. A free RTD Eco Pass is provided.

Description of Job
POSITION SUMMARY:
This Communications Intern position works in the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Executive Director’s Office to assist the Communications Director with media relations, social media, website/intranet content and accessibility, and internal communications. The position will be trained on basic communications and technology tools the Department uses, including email communications management systems, website, different digital accessibility tools, and the Google Suite. Opportunities to job shadow DNR employees and to attend board meetings, legislative hearings, and site visits will be provided.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
Media Relations :
Help keep DNR media lists updated
Monitor DNR clip and Google alerts for DNR related news to highlight for staff/leadership
Assist with managing topics in govDelivery
Assist with uploading lists/subscribers into govDelivery
Assist with developing/designing bulletins in govDelivery
Social Media :
Track DNR issues on social media
Help to track and strategize response to any comments
Draft content for DNR social media channels
Help organize DNR photo files (also for website)
Website Content & Accessibility :
Upload and do accessibility check on basic content to website (press releases for example)
Assist with tasks for website refresh
Assist with content uploads
Assist with basic remediation for intranet overhaul
Assist with basic page updates for intranet
Assist Accessibility Specialist with remediating less complicated documents
Assist with captioning videos posted on YouTube page and website
Assist with drafting alt text for photos
Internal Communications & Other Duties :
Attend meetings/interviews
Assist with media events as needed (general assistance, take photos)
Attend or track DNR Boards and Commission meetings
Assist with content and formatting of internal newsletters
Help develop/maintain stakeholder lists
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Experience Only:
Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. degree OR have completed at least one semester of community college, college or university
OR
Education and Experience:
At least one year of experience writing content for general audiences, assisting with or managing social media content for an organization, assisting with or managing marketing or public relations for an organization, or other experience closely related to the job duties.
Required Competencies:
Experience using Google Suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Suite
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Analytical and critical thinking
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy of written content
Demonstrated ability to write for general audiences (as demonstrated in supplemental question below)
Basic knowledge of natural resources issues in Colorado
