Robert Half Director of Accounting in Denver, Colorado

Description

A large publicly traded company in downtown Denver is seeking a Director of Accounting for their growing team. The Director of Accounting will have 3 direct reports and have a team of 25+ employees. The Director of Accounting will be responsible for the below:

• Accounting Management: Senior accounting leader for one or more of the Operating Utilities. Oversee a timely and accurate accounting close each month. Partner with the Chief Accounting Officer, the Assistant Controller and others to establish, recommend, administer and manage accounting and tax policies and procedures for Xcel Energy and its subsidiaries.

• Regulatory Accounting & Reporting: Direct the review and approval of accounting for fuel clause mechanisms (ECA, FCA, PCCA) and other rate riders to provide for a matching of revenue with state & federal regulatory cost recovery. Oversee all joint venture accounting with Audit Committee participation/leadership where required. Responsible for regulatory accounting and reporting including the build of the regulatory ledger, FERC & State PUC reporting, jurisdictional analysis/earnings and expert testimony, as needed.

• Financial Analysis & Reporting: Provide direct leadership, both managerial and technical, for financial performance reporting to support management decision-making. Evaluate actual results, provide budget and forecast information, as a key assumption owner and communicate financial results to Executive Management and senior Operating Company leadership.

This role offers a lot of WFH, working 4 days in office a month. The candidate needs to live in the Denver.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field

  • CPA or MBA

  • 3+ years of public accounting experience or experience working for a publicly traded company

  • 10 years of accounting experience with a minimum of 5 years of management experience required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, regulated utility industry accounting & reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance & reporting
