SUNY Delhi Small Animal Husbandry Assistant - Part-time in Delhi, New York

The Small Animal Husbandry Assistant (Staff Assistant) will support the Veterinary Science program by caring for the animals living on campus ensuring their safety and well-being. Husbandry includes cleaning and sanitizing animal cages and housing areas, feeding, and medicating (as needed). In the event of an urgent matters or emergency situations, employee will contact appropriate personnel or safety officers.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing daily condition and medical forms

  • Assisting with Dog, Cat, Primate and Rodent colony (rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters) husbandry

  • Assist in maintaining the safety and well-being of patients while on campus.

  • Provide additional animal husbandry support depending on work shift and daily care needed.

    Job Requirements:

  • Must have experience working with animals and be able to recognize certain animal behaviors

  • Lift objects or pets up to 50 pounds

  • Must have a valid unrestricted drivers license

  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to follow directions

  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays

    Additional Information:

  • Hourly Rate: $21.33/hr

  • Work Schedule: part time, up to 20 hrs per wk - includes weekend and holiday work

  • Reports to: Small Animal Facility Manager

  • Temporary position

  • Budget Title: Staff Assistant, SL2
