POSITION: Land Use Code Compliance Inspector w/without Building Inspector

DUTIES: - Issues permits, maintains records and performs inspections of vacation rental properties, camping on private property and zoning permit building setbacks. - Receives, researches, and responds to technical questions and complaints relative to land use and building codes. - Interacts extensively with complaining parties and alleged violators, acts in a courteous and professional manner. - Inspects sites and properties for compliance with Land Use and Building Codes - Prepares reports evidencing violations, routes reports appropriately, and initiates issuance of violation notices to alleged violators. - Develops compliance schedule for documented violations. - Provides information to property owners, the public, contractors, and County Staff regarding Land Use and Building Department codes and regulations. - Assigns and records new addresses for properties. Works with property owners to verify correct addresses. - Maintains and updates computer record keeping and filing systems for Land Use Code, Building Code, and all other code compliance violation files. - Prepares and mails various correspondence for the Land Use Department. - Assists in Building Department as needed, working towards obtaining building inspection certification. - When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker. - Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience involving public contact, conflict resolution, and computer usage.
• Experience in land use/zoning code and/or building code inspections/compliance preferred.
• Growth mindset and ability to adapt to sometimes stressful situations.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License with good driving record, by date of hire required.
• Moderate physical work requiring frequent walking, standing, and bending to perform inspections.
• Speech and hearing for communication with employees and residents
• Vision for visual inspections and driving.
• May have to retreat from or defend self against volatile or aggressive people, animals and/or unpredictable situations.
• Equipment Utilized: Standard office equipment, including computer, laptop/tablet, scanners, printers, copiers and operation of assigned county veh

SKILLS:

• Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures.
• Understand the organization and operations of the County, the Land Use Department and Building Department, and of outside agencies, as necessary, to assume assigned responsibilities.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
• Regular, predictable attendance with a growth mindset.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read and understand drawings, maps, plats and deeds.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel.
• Scope and application of federal, state, and county laws and regulations pertaining to Code Compliance enforcement programs.
• Accomplish the assigned workload in a timely manner and meet established performance standards and objectives.
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Provide professional customer service to clients and the public.

• Make sound judgment in stressful situations.

WAGE: $20.19/hr. to $29.26/hr. Depending on Experience

SHIFTS: This is a full-time position, 35 -40 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends may be needed, with advance scheduling, and will be accommodated through flex time.
