Army National Guard Units AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32) in Decatur, Illinois

Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1063000 and is part of the IL AASF 1, National Guard. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-12, you will act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft. Perform work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Participate in mission preparation and recovery operations. Expedite aircraft operations to include concurrent servicing, refueling, and/or reconfiguration of equipment for changes in operational missions. Perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. Servs as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft. Work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status. Control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel. Make diagnoses and solves malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE); by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams; and analyzing specifications and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components. Provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions. Perform in-process and final inspection of others' work on assigned aircraft and components and certifies by signature adherence to work procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications. Make decisions on a wide range of matters to ensure assigned aircraft is in the highest state of readiness and that maintenance performed is in accordance with the highest standards of safety, quality and technical compliance. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of MSG. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; ability to use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-12 Level MUST possess at least 18 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and reassembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the lower grade level in the Federal service in order to be considered for this position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
