Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Compliance and Training this role supports key compliance and student financial activities that maximize campus enrollment goals.

Responsibilities*

40% Administer the Student Financial `Get To Graduation? Program

A critical part of meeting our university mission is removing financial barriers to keep students on a path to graduation, while balancing compliance and our fiscal commitment to the University:

  • The position will have an opportunity to formally develop and support a comprehensive `Get to Graduation? program that will provide additional support and focused effort on working specifically with our undergraduate students who may otherwise leave due to financial challenges.

  • This role will focus on working with those students who require additional support and guidance and planning to get them to graduation. Examples of the types of students this role will directly work with:-Admitted students with low eligibility remaining-Financial holds prevent future enrollment, with financial need and limited aid remaining. -Impacted by Return of Title IV funding or not meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)-Any other students, identified through in-depth analysis on financial holds, who have had a financial change

  • Collaboration with admissions, academic advisors, student accounts and other campus colleagues to develop multi-semester plans that incorporate academic plans, financial aid eligibility and agree upon payment plans to facilitate, when possible, a plan with students to get to graduation.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify potential endowments to fund the plans

  • Facilitate Federal aid eligibility into planning, including responsible borrowing and financial literacy into the plan as early as admission.

  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for additional funding based on assessing students' collected data to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and university policy.

30% Administer the Quality Assurance Internal Review Program

This role will be responsible to identify and review samples to conduct quality assurance audits to ensure compliance with Federal Funding, Scholarships, Endowments, and Federal Work study

  • Identify issues that are a potential risk to compliance of federal programs

  • Review output and guide staff to correct student records and maintain accurate documentation of corrections

  • Audit reconciliation to ensure university remains in compliance with required data used in the awarding, disbursement and reconciliation

  • Monitor scholarship awarding process to ensure data integrity for awarding and renewal of need-based and merit institutional aid

  • Recommend updates to processes to ensure compliance with Title IV regulations

20% Financial Literacy

This role will be responsible for supporting financial literacy, realistic goal setting for borrowing as well as providing individual entrance and exit counseling for students who request this service.

  • Help students understand responsible borrowing opportunities and rules that apply to student loans, repayment options, debt management possibilities, and the consequences of defaulting on your loans and pertinent information on tracking both your federal and private loans

  • Oversight of graduating students to ensure they receive appropriate exit information before graduation

10% Data Analysis/Reporting

  • Retrieves and analyzes data to proactively identify eve data from the financial aid and enrollment data to proactively identify students University, to support awarding aid, problem-solving and various types of strategic reporting.

  • Develop reports to update management on outreach activities and the results of those activities.

  • Maintains and provides updates on students with active ?Get to Graduation? financial plans.

10% Additional Responsibilities

  • Create and present training on relevant topics,

  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures as needed

  • Participates in the review process for all materials disseminated to members of the University community related to federal aid and education financing.

  • As needed, represents the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships at meetings and/or events.

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of federal, state and University policies and regulations governing financial aid programs.

  • Represents OFAS at professional conferences, workshops, and other professional development activities as appropriate.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor?s degree is required with minimum of 2 -years? experience in financial aid

  • Knowledge of Title IV financial aid regulations and programs

  • Proficient in the use of Student Information Systems, financial aid modules, Banner Preferred

  • Strong analytical skills including: data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess student situations and make recommendations in consultation with colleagues and management

  • Ability to handle confidential records with the required caution and professionalism; adherence to FERPA.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, required.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, be flexible and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment and work well under pressure in a high stress environment required.

  • Ability to work effectively with others and in teams as well as on sole projects.

  • Must be personable, energetic, and be customer service oriented.

  • Ability to maintain a professional office environment.

  • Understanding of the commitment of the UM-Dearborn mission and the mission of enrollment management preferred.
