Ford Motor Company Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan
For this role you will support design, documentation, implementation, and validation of software components used by multiple teams both internal and external to Ford and will be involved in the launch of IVI software solutions in future Ford vehicles. You will be a key contributor to the development of embedded software and hardware that is deployed in various In-vehicle Infotainment test systems and hardware testing environments. All current and future project work will be used in the ongoing development and testing of the next generation infotainment system, embedded modem, vehicle cloud connectivity, mobile app development & integration testing for Ford vehicles. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned embedded engineer with a demonstrated ability to solution creative and innovative hardware and software solutions, and to deliver elegant solutions with exceptional quality. • Design, code, and integrate software for an embedded Linux target, help improve and maintain existing software components.
• Lead customization deployment and maintenance of Linux applications and system services on existing & next generation systems.
• Author software components and ensure that they meet functional and quality requirements.
• Own all aspects of the software development lifecycle and apply data analytics to provide qualitative and quantitative improvements.
• Participate in reviews & discussions for new features, lead software development and collaborate with hardware/software team and stakeholders.
• Assist in development of system architectures and platforms for next generation hardware/software in vehicle infotainment test solutions.
• Help triage customer design or usability issues and mentor junior team members.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with C/C++ (e.g., OOP, data types, memory management, peripheral device drivers, pointers, structures, etc.).
• 5+ years of experience in developing/contribution to the Linux kernel, maintaining, and optimizing code for embedded Linux kernel and application targets.
• Hands on Linux device driver development experience with an understanding of video subsystems and embedded Linux Distributions.
• 5+ years of experience with a deep knowledge developing and debugging embedded targets and/or ARM based SOC architecture with embedded Linux OS.
• 5+ years of experience in building binaries from source code and deploying it in various environment and resolving dependencies.
• Experience with Multimedia frameworks for embedded Linux distributions.
• Understanding of OSI model & the TCP/IP stack and networking fundamentals.
• Experience reading electrical schematics and parts data sheets to work with hardware teams.
• Ability to work with hardware lab equipment such as a oscilloscopes / multimeters / signal generator etc.
Preferred Requirements:
• 10+ years of relevant work experience and team leadership in embedded application development.
• Experienced software developer with ability to develop & debug complex multithreaded applications in C/C++.
• Well versed with development & deployment of Multimedia frameworks for embedded Linux distributions.
• Working knowledge in audio and video streaming applications using WebRTC and familiarity with codecs such as H.264/ H.265/VP8.
• Experience in unit level and system level testing.
• Hands on experience with Linux device drivers and device trees & ALSA & V4L subsystems.
• Knowledge with video frameworks such as egl, OpenGL, Vulkan, GBM.
• Experience with Agile Scrum development methodologies with common workflow tools (e.g., Confluence, GIT, Jira, Jenkins/GitHub Actions, TestRail).
• Experience with creating supporting documentation (e.g., design documents, architecture diagrams, test procedures, reports).
