Digixan IT Wiring Technician in Dearborn, Michigan

The IT Wiring Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing network and telecommunications cabling infrastructure. This role involves working with a variety of cabling systems, including fiber optics, Ethernet, and coaxial cables, to ensure efficient and reliable connectivity for data, voice, and video networks. The IT Wiring Technician must ensure that all wiring is installed according to industry standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cabling Installation: Install and terminate various types of cables, including Ethernet, fiber optic, coaxial, and telephone lines, in commercial and residential settings.
  • Network Setup: Assist with the installation and setup of network hardware, such as switches, routers, and wireless access points, ensuring proper connectivity and performance.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Test cabling systems for functionality and performance using appropriate tools and equipment. Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues, signal loss, and other technical problems.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of wiring layouts, cable routes, and network configurations. Update documentation as changes or upgrades are made to the infrastructure.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all wiring work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and industry standards. Follow safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance on existing cabling infrastructure, including identifying and replacing damaged or outdated cables and connectors.
  • Customer Interaction: Work with clients to understand their wiring needs and provide solutions that meet their requirements. Offer technical advice and support as needed.
  • Project Management: Coordinate with other team members, contractors, and clients to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. Prepare and submit reports on project progress.
Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in a related field (e.g., electronics, telecommunications, IT) is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in network cabling, telecommunications, or a related field is required.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in installing and terminating various types of cabling (Ethernet, fiber optics, coaxial, etc.)
    • Strong understanding of networking concepts and infrastructure
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Good communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
    • Basic understanding of electrical safety and codes
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders. Must be comfortable working at heights and in various environmental conditions.
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily works on-site at customer locations, which may include office buildings, data centers, and residential properties.
  • May require travel to different job sites and occasional evening or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
  • Must be prepared to work in various environments, including outdoor installations and construction sites.
