Overview

The System Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, testing, implementing, deploying, and maintaining the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), including the configuration of hardware and software, enhancement, interface, and operation of the system. Additionally, the System Engineer will drive continuous improvement, help improve knowledge base management, documentation and users-training of MES supporting an industry-leading battery manufacturing facility.

Position Summary:

The System Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, testing, implementing, deploying, and maintaining the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), including the configuration of hardware and software, enhancement, interface, and operation of the system. Additionally, the System Engineer will drive continuous improvement, help improve knowledge base management, documentation and users-training of MES supporting an industry-leading battery manufacturing facility. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The System Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement systems that support our production and operational goals.

Essential Duties:

• Perform application support duties for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) as needed.

• Oversee the daily operations of the MES platform, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability, performance and reliability.

• Perform and communicate planning, development, peer review, and testing solutions for MES modules creation and modification.

• Execute development and implementation of new capabilities across the Manufacturing Execution System based on requirements, specifications, and developed software solutions to meet business requirements (including hardware and software scope). Ensuring they are efficient, reliable, and scalable.

• Provide and manage production support for MES functions including ERP interfaces, test interfaces, MES master data maintenance & process modeling, MES functionality (transactions and user interfaces), and database / reporting functions.

• Work closely with IT and engineering teams to integrate MES with other systems such as ERP and PLM, ensuring smooth data flow and interoperability.

• Ensure accurate and timely data capture within the MES, including monitoring data integrity and generating reports to support decision-making.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation for system and hardware configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides. Create user manuals and training materials as needed.

• Ensure that the MES complies with industry regulations and company policies, including data security and quality standards.

• Participate in MES-related projects, including new system implementations, upgrades, and process changes. Co-work with vendors and external partners as required.

• Document configuration changes with associated test cases and performs functional validation.

• Work closely with production, engineering, IT, and quality assurance teams to understand their needs and deliver effective systems solutions.

• Collaborate with stakeholders, including business analysts and end-users, to gather and analyze business requirements. Translate these requirements into systems requirement.

• Works with vendors to define optimal system configurations and hardware requirements.

• Applies technical knowledge to develop clear and standard work instructions.

• Stay updated with the latest advancements in systems engineering and manufacturing technologies, continuously seeking opportunities to improve systems and processes.

• Ensure all systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements, contributing to a safe and compliant manufacturing environment.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

• To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees’, wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education

• Basic/Required: Bachelor’s Degree in quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, etc.).

• Preferred: Master’s degree

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum 4+ years of experience in application engineering or a related field, preferably within a manufacturing environment

• Experience managing projects, including system upgrades and process improvements. Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple priorities

• Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact with cross-functional teams and present technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders

• Solid problem-solving and analytical skills

• Knowledge of Windows/Linux and familiarity with TCP/IP systems

• Experience in programming languages C# and JAVA, PostgreSQL, and Druid

• Professional experience working with and analyzing computer hardware and software

• Strong analytic and decision-making abilities, able to influence others towards a common goal

• A strong team player who can work closely with multiple functional groups in a fast-paced environment

• Self-motivation and resourcefulness

• Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, effectively prioritize work, and deliver quality results

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to describe technical theory to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment and manage multiple projects

• A global perspective with the ability to understand and work effectively in a culturally diverse organization

• Good understanding of general functions of system components

• Strong knowledge of software and hardware architecture principles

• Proficiency in various programming languages, database management systems, and cloud technologies

• Relevant certifications in application engineering, automation, or project management

Preferred Qualifications:

• Programming experience that includes an object oriented or scripting language.

• Experience with database management systems (SQL, NoSQL).

• Experience with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD, Jenkins, Docker).

• Experience working in an Agile environment.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure).

• Project management skills with ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

• Able to work independently and in a team environment, as well as with cross-functional groups

• Resilient, self-motived and able to work well under pressure.
