Facility:Dayton Children's - Main CampusDepartment:Patient Relations AdministrationSchedule:Part timeHours:16Job Details:The Language Access Coordinator is responsible for using their knowledge of multiple languages to assure that the needs of limited English proficiency patients (LEP) and deaf (ASL) American Sign Language patients and families are met in accordance with hospital policy, federal law and TJC/CMS regulatory guidelines. The Language Access Coordinator will possess strong communication skills, cultural competency, and a commitment to serving the diverse needs of our patients and families. The Language Access Coordinator will prioritize in person interpreting for outpatient clinic appointments as well as cover any inpatient and emergency department interpretive needs. Assist in managing the hospital process for providing language services. Help develop better strategies for the internal interpreter services program. Monitor trends and recognize organizationally how we can improve resources and communication to all limited English proficient patients and families.
Education
GED/High School diploma preferred
Associates degree preferred
Experience
2 years of interpreting experience required; 1yr of medical interpreting experience preferred
1-3 years of healthcare experience preferred
Completion of Language Proficiency test and an Interpreter Skills Assessment will be required
Completion of a Medical Interpreter 40 hour training course within 30 days of hire will be required
Department Specific Job Details:
Preferred any of following languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Kinyarwanda, or Swahili.
Shift: 1st Shift hours may vary.
