WSP USA Director, Environmental Science in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

WSP’s Earth & Environment group is currently seeking an experienced Director of Environmental Management – for Atlantic Canada. This role will provide project management services for environmental site assessment, remediation and various projects across the Atlantic Region. Candidates with suitable skills and experience may be also considered for a team leadership position.

Position Overview: Reporting into the VP of Earth & Environment - The successful candidate will lead a team of senior professionals, delivering on complex environmental remediation projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards – across the Maritimes. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of environmental science and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of people managers and technical staff, promoting professional development and high performance.

  • Manage large-scale environmental remediation projects from inception to completion.

  • Develop and implement project plans, schedules, and budgets.

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and standards.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on remediation strategies and technologies.

  • Oversee project teams, including engineers, scientists, and other specialists.

  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.

  • Prepare and present project reports and documentation.

  • Identify and mitigate project risks.

  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental remediation project management.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large and complex projects simultaneously

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Professional certification (e.g., PMP, PE) is preferred.

  • Possession of, or eligibility for P.Eng. or P.Geo. designation (alternative designations will be considered with experience);

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams.
