Description of Work

This position requires general knowledge of office practices and procedures to compile, review, verify, complete and record data for records and reports. Public contact is on a daily basis. Applicant must have excellent telephone etiquette and demonstrate professional customer service skills at all times. Duties involve working independently, problem solving, strong mathematic skills, establishing and updating of records and reports, generating and analysis of reports. Employee will perform all other duties as assigned. Employee must perform work in accordance with NCDOT workplace and safety policy.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Answering incoming calls and transferring to appropriate recipient

  • Greeting and answering questions from the traveling public, giving information of ferry schedules and the surrounding areas

  • Selling tickets and running reports for the passenger ferry during season

  • Daily traffic validations

  • Cleaning of restrooms in reception area

  • Keeping storeroom stocked with supplies

This position works out of the HATTERAS OPERATION and will work 7 days on – 7 days

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Skilled in using Windows 7 (or greater), Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet Explorer.

  • Experience in gathering and giving information and instructions.

  • Skilled in working with people with courtesy and tact, utilizing customer service skills.

Additional Expectations:

Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preferred.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
