Geisinger Respiratory Therapy Extern in Danville, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist Extern Program is an educational and clinical work experience for respiratory therapy students who have completed their senior year of respiratory therapy studies. Observes routine and complex patient procedures along with cleaning and set up of life support equipment and cleaning bronchoscopes.

Job Duties

  • ​Stocks supply areas.

  • Ensures all contaminated reusable equipment is delivered to central sterile supply as well as obtaining cleaning equipment.

  • Disassembles, clean, reassemble and perform quality control checks on reusable equipment.

  • Transports equipment to critical care units.

  • Observes and assists with the download of Nocturnal Oximetry reports.

  • Observes staff therapists performing routine patient care as well as specialty procedures.

  • Auscultates lung sounds and reviews medical records in accordance with patient confidentiality policies, and observes al HIPPA regulations.

  • Assembles oxygen therapy devices at bedside. Staff therapist will apply the device to the patient.

    Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details

Schedule is 8 hours per week.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required), Associate's Degree-Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)

Experience

Certification(s) and License(s)

Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body
