Job Description:

We are seeking a driven and talented Systems Engineer III who will work as our Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join a dynamic team with a wide breadth of technical knowledge. This position will play a pivotal part in the University’s Enterprise Cloud & Infrastructure Services managing complete asset management cycles from data center readiness to system infrastructure. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a hands-on individual, assisting in the development and deployment of enterprise environments. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a competent virtualization skill set, and an ability to deploy and configure production-ready solutions, services and tools for our IT workloads using best practices and automation wherever possible. The engineer will have opportunities to be involved at all stages of the project – governance, development, and operations. Serve as project manager for projects associated with enterprise solutions, including working with internal and external stakeholders, recommending best-fit solutions, and monitoring of emerging technologies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years related experience OR Associate degree with six (6) related experience OR High School or equivalent with eight (8) years related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

BS degree with minimum 7 years of experience working directly with complex environments. Enterprise architectural understanding from compute resources, networking, security, data protection, and data governance from design to deployment and complete system lifecycle. Experienced with data center environmental controls, HVAC / power distribution units, and data center monitoring tools.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience with data center operations from power management, asset management, and data center environmental and HVAC systems.

  • Solid understanding of physical data center systems and hardware components.

  • Experience with enterprise system design and deployment of solutions with working knowledge of server resource and management platforms.

  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff, can clearly articulate architecture to peers.

  • Solution design and implementation experience.

Ideal Experience:

  • Proficient working experience in virtualization and cloud environments.

  • Knowledge of agile software development practices and release management.

  • Good understanding of enterprise architecture and the relationships between enterprise resources.

  • Experience with system virtualization technologies, cloud deployment, database architecture, networking, enterprise storage, data protection, and security architecture including but not limited to AHV , ESXi, EC2, ECS , VPC , S3, DynamoDB, RDS , Azure blob, Storage networking protocols, SMB / NFS File, etc.

  • Experience with deployment and functionality of container services (e.g.: Docker, Kubernetes, Container Service).

  • Understanding of software design, software development, IP networking, Linux, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS , GCP , VMware, Nutanix, and Rubrik experience.

  • Experience with Ansible/ AWX , Terraform, CloudFormation, and/or PowerShell leveraging an automation approach.

  • Ability to coordinate efforts of junior level staff and manage projects independently.

  • Ability to assess efficiencies and make adjustments/recommendations for improvement.

  • Good understanding of various operating systems, OS vulnerabilities and patching, third party application vulnerabilities and patching.

  • Good troubleshooting methodology and awareness of industry standards.

  • Good technical and problem-solving skills, good communication skills, works well with limited supervision. Analytical in troubleshooting complex issues and attain root causes analysis.

  • Ability to produce technical documentation and training materials for training, knowledge bases, and RCA .

  • Experience in Cloud costs optimization and managing workloads in public and private cloud environments.

  • Knowledgeable in agile development, SCRUM , application/system lifecycle management.
