Position Overview

Oncor Electric Delivery has summer Engineering intern positions that are available to students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering and are interested in an internship in one of its Transmission, Distribution, Measurement, or Operations organizations. Electrical, civil and mechanical engineering disciplines are typically recruited based on business needs. Oncor Electric Delivery's Internship program goal is to develop skills and provide experience for students pursuing a career in the field of power engineering. Oncor is looking for candidates who are proficient in Microsoft Office applications, a self-starter, flexible, a quick learner, highly motivated and a good team player. Accordingly, the job requires effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, leadership / initiative and problem solving / decision making skills.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the job may include any of the following:

  • Assist in basic engineering tasks of design, evaluation, problem solving, analysis and planning to support distribution, substation and transmission projects.

  • Work as part of a team to provide engineering support to ensure reliability, availability, efficiency and functionality of all equipment, processes and projects.

  • Assist in engineering support to a distribution or transmission operating center to optimize operation of the electric grid (keeping the lights on).

  • Interface with engineering staff, field operations, maintenance groups, and other Oncor Electric Delivery personnel to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions.

  • Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Participate in special projects as requested.

Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering is required.

  • Ability to work independently and on a team.

  • Knowledge of electrical power transmission and distribution systems, grid operations, and industry standards.

  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
