Responsibilities

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation (BSWIR) is seeking a full-time speech-language pathologist based at our multidisciplinary clinic with a caseload specific to oncology rehabilitation, Baylor Scott and White Charles A Sammons Cancer. Experience in management of communication and swallowing disorders related to head and neck cancer is required. We strive to serve our patients throughout their cancer journey by providing pre-treatment evaluations and rehabilitation post-operatively, as well as during and after radiation treatments. Experience in voice disorders and complex dysphagia is required. Proficiency in TEP management is preferred. Dysphagia evaluation and management with “bolus driven therapy” is a large focus of this position. Training in the McNeil Dysphagia Therapy Program (MDTP) will be a requirement for management of late onset of radiation associated dysphagia (Late RAD). Experience with FEES and videostroboscopy are desired. Performance of MBSS is not a requirement as we work closely with the acute care therapists who handle the swallow studies. There is opportunity for program development by a self-motivated individual who is willing to work within the established oncology rehabilitation framework. Our outpatient speech program has over 50 full time speech pathologists with a vast array of experience and specialties. We provide many internal CEU’s and certifications as well as encourage education opportunities for specialty areas. We offer a clinical ladder for advancement, company-supported professional development and CEU’s and a student loan assistance program. We have a year-long professional development program to clinicians new to the post-acute rehabilitation part of the continuum. Require at least 2-3 years of experience treating the adult medical population.

Specific Duties

  • Evaluate assigned patients and establish appropriate treatment goals and programs.

  • Coordinate treatment program in conjunction with other clinical/therapeutic services as available community resources.

  • Develop comprehensive goals for patient treatment to maximize patient outcomes and return to community activities.

  • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association or eligibility for Certification pending professional experience required.
